@lynnesbian Linux system design is a fucking mess anyway it causes this whole divergent and deviant distro situation

@lynnesbian also arch sucks if I have to read documentation on every package before updating and do menial ops work to maintain the expected behavior of the os

@cant_into firstly:https://radical.town/@Jame/101406954711012942secondly, not every linux environment uses systemd or even the same design principle when it comes to core/library/etc location or the design of embedded linux distros like Android or other firmware which uses a linux kernel.

@cant_into but sure I guess distros don't matter since everyone just shits everything onto their core system (every gcc library & package manager by default) or into shims (node.js, ruby, python) in the linux world anway

@cant_into yeah I used to run FreeBSD and contribute to parts of it as part of a job and I found their whole community to be far better oriented towards making good design decisions.Which is probably easier when you're a far smaller project, but they do it with a lot of diverging interests at play (which is no small feat).about the time that I worked there I really started noticing the corporate-oriented decisionmaking Linux as a full community seems to have. Which is their prerogative.

@cant_into like, when you look at who's calling the shots when it comes to the megacorps' development of linux software, it tends to be those corporations themselves in the email threads, discussions, etc. This was more a practical feel from my interactions with those mediums, which other people who had more experience tended to confirm. I'd be glad to be proven wrong though, if you or anyone else were to know better

@cant_into to be honest if you ever want to bag on someone who works on or with freebsd just say it’s discount solaris since that’s where it gets all of its system design and virtualization principles

@lynnesbian like I’m more of a fan of FreeBSD because of the ports tree but every NetBSD user or developer Ive met has like transcendent positivity and Ive never heard them complain and it actually creeps me out

@_ so Im gonna post some alternatives but first is gonna be my tearing apart of the words to bury a later ledein-cubare is latin ‘to lie on’ or ‘upon the sleeper’ or even ‘forced upon during sleep’ (incubo in italian is still the word for nightmare as it’s something that descends on the sleeper) and sub-cubare is ‘to lie under’ or ‘as the sleeper sleeps’ (from whence succubus comes) or even ‘lain with during sleep’

@_ as a result the application of ablative prepositions can be extrapolated giving the following -cubo words:excubo - emerging out of sleep, ‘in your dreams’, lit from lying down/sleeping or away from ones bed. Dreamy or unattainablesinecubo - without sleep. Poetic implications of mania, or without you I cannot sleep. Probably not good outside of poeticsabcubo - similar but more generic to excubo, but more ‘after’ from than ‘out of’ from. A slight distinction

@_ (and now, giving -cubus instead of -cubo for no reason other than anglicization)procubus - a being that generates a desire to sleep with or a soporific that generates a desire to sleep. Morpheus-type dream implicationsdecubus - similar to abcubus/excubus but more ‘about’ like exists around sleep. idk& most importantly:cumcubus - most like Lillith imo, one who/to lie/sleep-with. To create dreams together. One to recline with. comes to you in dream/sleep as an equal

@VyrCossont @format is there a way of targetting iOS that doesn’t give most ‘I would be doing this in my spare time’ people hay-fever, though?

enby goes to doctor. Says they're depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says they feel all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "at least you're not this dipshit" and shows you a screenshot of a social media post."Doctor, that's my mastodon"
