This isn’t a one off and is a trend not only in New Mexico. Not even a year ago a Trump supporting failed candidate organized a string of drive by shootings targeting the homes of New Mexico elected leaders. Just AFTER January 6th 2020, a Trump supporting militia member shot someone at a rally. As the election nears this is only going to escalate - why is no one ringing the alarm bells?

I referred someone to the emergency room today and they declined to go saying they were going to try and wait for the 1st of October. Because that is when their health insurance will finally be active. I hate #healthcare in the US. #medmastodon #publichealth Edit: I didn’t realize this would gain any attention. Just want people to know this is COMMON. At least weekly I or a coworker recommend someone seek additional care and they choose not to or delay due to lack of insurance.

I want to send the state of Texas a bill for all the chlamydia, trich, and UTIs I write prescriptions to their residents for. So many people who come to #NewMexico and Colorado for #abortion care end up getting very basic health screenings while here their home handmaid’s tale-esque state is neglecting. Want to “save lives”? Decrease chlamydia in your state - it leads to increased rates of ectopic pregnancies.

@joshourisman I know… 😔 I’m honestly terrified. A blood test has recently been developed to test for abortion pill mifepristone metabolites. There are reports of it being used by police in Poland (and Britain too I believe) along with period tracking app data. The test is not available in the US now. Lots of talk about “#abortion pill reversal” but few seem to know what it isMifepristone, one of the two medications used in abortion, works by blocking progesterone - the hormone the pregnancy needs to grow. The idea behind reversal is that giving someone a massive dose of progesterone could offset mifepristone. There is NO evidence for this. In fact, the one study that tried to look at this was ended early after 25% of participants were hospitalized for heavy vaginal bleeding.

Below is a good summary of the study. Other important caveats 1. Mifepristone alone will not reliably end a pregnancy. It is meant to be followed by a medication called misoprostol. Mifepristone alone can cause an abortion. But folks can have ongoing viable pregnancies2. @jeff With specifically Palestinian Americans, calling their refusal to vote for someone who provided the bombs that in some cases killed loved ones as “posturing” isn’t going to play well. The electoral college is what earnestly has me worried. See below from a piece from The Guardian. I think we can agree that taking demographics for granted without meaningfully addressing their greivances isn’t a long term strategy to win.

@jeff I agree that things would be worse under a Trump presidency. Why I bring this perspective up is because based on what I see on Instagram and TikTok (and is supported with polling) is an alarming level of disaffection amongst young people. I don’t see the “a vote for ___ is a vote for ___” argument resonating. They know it would be worse with Trump. I think people are underestimating the willingness of many who feel taken for granted to let it all burn down.

Remembering the #abortion provider and advocate Dr. Greg Tiller. He was murdered by an anti-abortion terrorist 15 years ago today. Prior to his murder he had survived being shot in an assassination attempt and also had his clinic firebombed. Despite this he continued his work up until his murder.
