Dyer and colleagues analyzed the [solar] storm and found that bit flips in computer memory could have occurred at a rate of ~60 errors per hour per gigabyte. No flight anomalies were reported, he notes, but "I can only believe that the Nov. 11th 2025 event focused minds on this problem."

Ham radio offers a “secret IP” network running in the 44. space. Only those with a radio license can get into this space. Now you have a reason to get licensed. What is behind the curtain you ask? IRC servers, radio equipment, Mastodon servers and an actual partridge in a pear tree.

#History One beautiful night Paul Galvin and William Lear took their girlfriends to a romantic look-out view. Paul asked, “Isn’t this great?” His girlfriend replied, “It would be better if we could hear music.”That set Galvin and Lear on a mission to get entertainment into the car. A car radio. They were tinkerers. Galvin owned a failed battery manufacturing company while Leer owned an electronics company. Lear and Galvin were smart but broke.

They ultimately invented a prototype radio for the car, but it was massive and complicated. No car battery could power it, the radio required its own big battery which was stored under the seat. The antenna was netting covering the roof. Their biggest challenge was static generated by the car’s starter, transmission, battery, lights – you name it. Galvin and Lear traced each source to correct the trouble making components one by one.

Parts of the radio had to be placed in different locations throughout the car. For example, the receiver was mounted on the engine, the controls on the dash. Finally, still broke, they drove their Studebaker loaded with radio to the bank to apply for a loan to back the venture. The banker agreed to test drive the car for a night. Unfortunately, it caught fire in his garage and no loan was granted.

Next Galvin traveled 800 miles to a radio manufacturer convention. He sat outside the convention hall, played the radio loud and attracted enough orders for the radio to continue his quest. The trouble continued. It was an expensive install: $600 for a $3,000 car. Many people thought it was dangerous to listen to the radio in the car – a distraction. Municipalities tried to ban it fearing it was a driver attention hazard.

Supporters of the ban argued that many types of radio programming could put drivers to sleep. Surveys showed most Americans believed car radios were dangerous.Oh, and the name they gave the device was horrible: 7FT1. Galvin came up with a new name that was both descriptive and synched with the times, Motorola. Partner William Lear went on to invent the 8 track tape and the Lear Jet.Chevrolet installed the first reasonably priced Motorola radios in the early 1920s.EOF

What is friendship?A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become and still, gently allows you to grow.Friendships are relationships that involve two very critical dimensions – interdependence and voluntary participation.True friendships are hallmarked by each member's desire to engage with the other – it's about mutual interest in one another's experiences and thoughts, as well as a sense of 'belongingness' and connection .

As much as Meshtastic or Meshcore intrigue me I am not going to, at least for the moment, purchase any end user equipment. Here is why1. My best close friends and I licensed a business band frequency and installed a 110 watt repeater which we don’t use. 2. Then we bought encrypted radios which we don’t use. 3. Then I bought a GMRS repeater which we don’t use. 4. Then ham equipment. 5. Another UHF commercial repeater and license. Notice a trend yet ?

@kilroy_was_here It’s within the realm of possibility. I suspect the resonance cavity is variable and is tunable to the uplink frequencies. The picture suggests it’s a generator mounted onto a platform that provides power to the output amplifier. Perhaps a klystron tube. I doubt it’s a solid state device.

@Spud_Coolzip I agree. Overload the receiver and pop it out rendering it useless as a repeater.
