@captainepoch it's getting more and more absurd, doesn't it?On one hand they want to protect their industries from espionage (= effective encryption) on the other we people are so much their enemies it seems, they cannot stop trying to establish #surveillance matters - which only work by breaking encryption.But you can't have both + there is a fluent passage between business applications & consumer applications.How hard is it to understand this? How will they separate chats from #encryption? What about PGP emails, what about P2P chat protocols like Tox, someone mentioned Session (seems to be P2P too) and and and?Given that: How is the surveillance of some commercial chats effective at all - especially in regards of fighting child abuse + terrorism?!It's only effective in surveiling normal people!Till now the industry saved our assess. However w/ the adoption rate of MS Teams, WebEx etc. I think the industry more and more doesn't care. It's getting tough. This time its on us.

@gnulinux Wenn ich das lese, mache ich mir als fast 50 jähriger alter Sack durchaus Vorwürfe. Ich würde mich nicht als "Generation" Digital Natives aber durchaus als Digital Native bezeichnen. Seit 1988 programmiere ich Computer (u.a. eigene Drumsequenzer), seit 1991 bin ich im Internet (damals hauptsächlich Newsgroups und IRC).Ich habe diese 2000er First Digital Natives heranwachsen sehen und auch geglaubt, das gibt sich alles ganz automatisch von selbst. Mir war nicht klar, dass meine Rolle hätte sein können, die Grundlagen für ein solides digitales Selbstverständnis zu vermitteln. Dass es Quatsch ist, da irgendwelchen Lehrern mit ihren in Java-Kursen erworbenen Halbwissen zu vertrauen, die würden das schon richten. Und jetzt haben wir in der Tat diese Generation IPad, die schon mit dem Konzept "Ordner" nicht klarkommt. Wir haben zugelassen, dass wir jetzt die Generation "Digital Abhängig und dabei lost" haben. Warum? Ua. weil Leute wie ich zu sehr mit sich selbst zu tun hatten.

@venya Hey, thanks for the hint with the Open Theremin! I had the chance to play a theremin after a show last year because the performer (Donna Maya) allowed people to play with it. I was able to handle it quite well and was thinking - well - that was a once in a lifetime chance and felt quite happy that day and told everyone to call me Hitchcock now 🙂Now my mind is blown away again: I can actually buy this!! And it's not even that expansive! Well... I'LL BUY THAT!Thanks again for planting that idea into my brain!

@iska @unfa It was in testing for a while, and nobody noticed. It only occurs in certain firmware setups.Arch is the first distro shipping this version of grub. They work together with upstream Grub devs to fix this.The only strange thing - I did the update this evening and was hit. I was under the impression they have rolled it back. But no.

@tuxedocomputers Hopefully also available without Nvidia GPU.The Ryzen definitely has enough GFX power by its own. Why making something that just works instable and less mobile (energy wise) by combining it with Nvidia components?!

@killyourfm that disappearing is also caused by the fact that Spotify is not the only streaming player. There's also Deezer, YT music (my choice - surely NOT better than Spotify), apple music, Amazon music, Tidal etc As a musician I won't miss out on any of those, so I use (as lots of others) a service like Distrokid which manages the subscription of my music to all those streaming services at once.However that involves fees. For every year. If I cannot afford those: All albums of mine vanish.

For quite some time mstdn.social (the Mastodon instance I am on) had raised the 500 char limit per toot to I think 1000 or at least 750 chars?It was a very relaxing experience. I didn't have to cut my texts, didn't had to change nice and kewl wording with lame short phrases everyone uses.I didn't really say more im my toots, but I was able to say it... **nicely**.That's over now, we are back to 500 - and it makes me a bit sad.@stux Any chance to change the limit back?I know, there is frie

Ah Answer to myself. Mstdn.social had activated some extra features. It's back to plain vanilla mastodon code now, because they (and I fully understand that) don't want to risk instable behavior.

If u can (I know, lots of users struggle with other problems - that sure has priority - but for us who can) - please support your #Fediverse Instance (=Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfeed, Peertube etc.)!Look for the "about" menu on the website - often there is enough info about how you can support them. Servers cost money, and sometimes admins invest DAYS in making sure, things run smooth (as i.e. @stux from mstdn.social and many other admins who have to deal with the sudden flood of new users).
