@Al68_tt I wonder what she thinks of the many transwomen and TRAs who use the same misogynistic and sexually violent language that men have always used against her? It’s pathetic that her sympathies lie with them rather than the women who can actually relate with her.

The misogyny, entitlement, and ethnocentrism of anime-loving TRAs: I’m a big fan of Persona. For those who are unfamiliar with it, it’s a Japanese video game series where you play as the silent protagonist, fight “shadows”, and build social links with other characters in the game. It’s not perfect, there is plenty of homophobia and sexual harassment that’s played for laughs, but there are positive themes and messages. Persona 4’s Naoto Shirogane is a teenage detective who, like most of the main characters in the game, is thrown into the “shadow world” by the game’s antagonist. Each character has to face their shadow-self, which is an embodiment of all the things they reject about themselves. Shadow Naoto is a crybaby mad scientist who laments how her coworkers treat her like an annoying child. She plans to make the real Naoto undergo a body modification experiment to gain society’s respect. Up until this point of the game, the player is led to believe that Naoto is male, when in fact she is female. She has been posing as a boy all this time because she doesn’t want to give the police force a “concrete reason” to discriminate against her. She even goes on to state that being a woman doesn’t fit the image in her head of a cool, strong detective - revealing Naoto’s internalized misogyny. The writing in Persona 4 is not complex whatsoever. After their shadow selves are defeated, all the characters in the game plainly state what their fears were and what goals they want to achieve from there on out (see image). It’s powerful in that it exemplifies the sexism that’s so prevalent in Japanese society and follows one girl’s journey of self-acceptance in spite of all that. Unfortunately, this scene went completely over the little heads of TRAs. You can find essay upon essay about how the writers of the game “failed” this so-called trans character, how they were “too scared” to commit to the trans narrative. Naoto’s internalized misogyny is not seen as a flaw to these people. Instead, it is accepted at face value and used as fodder for the argument that she truly is a guy. Nevermind that this game comes from a country where, very recently, the scores of female medical school applicants were manipulated to let more men in instead. To these TRAs, institutionalized sexism is not worth discussing. They assert that they know “his” character better than the people who actually created “him”. Some crybaby fans even went so far as to make dialogue-changing mods to the game to have Naoto state that she is indeed a transman. To project this identity onto a character because she is a victim of a patriarchal society truly and utterly misses the point. This is just another example of how TRAs purposely ignore the struggles that real women go through.

@Chronic-Yonic If it’s tiny, then can we have r/GC back? After all, there’s only a handful of us - how influential could we possibly be? 😏

https://aramajapan.com/news/hikaru-utada-officially-comes-out-as-non-binary/114028/So this is news to me (and of course, lots of braindead takes in the comments section) “ It makes me uncomfortable to be identified so markedly by my marital status or sex, and I don’t relate to any of those prefixes. Every time, I feel like I’m forced to misrepresent myself.”Me and you both, Hikki, but we’re still women. Also, she recently participated in a Shiseido ad where she talks about what being a woman means to her?? Disappointing because I assumed she was smarter than this.

@fpcgggc Unfortunately patients like these are a dime a dozen. It’s difficult because *of course* providers want the patient’s pain addressed, but if they’re going to malinger and go on a rampage like this, it’s best to just outright dismiss them.

@Terfest__Shadow They don’t want to acknowledge that a lot of radfems *were* supportive of trans people until they recognized the misogyny that’s central to the TRA agenda. It’s TRAs that turned us into big, scary TERFs. 💁♀️

@Yemaya @GalacticTurtle It’s worth mentioning that the majority of physicians don’t commit to doing research projects at all, even if they are offered funding. They simply read what is already published by PhDs. We aren’t given much education about nutrition, but we are taught to always first suggest diet, exercise, and keeping a food diary in many outpatient encounters. Still, the majority of patients I’ve met would rather take medication than change their lifestyle habits.

@ocwitch Wonder what Wiener thinks of the TIFs who are already in women’s prisons. Does he think it’s right for them to switch over to to men’s prisons? They’re men too after all, so they must be brutalizing women as we speak! 🧐

@sansar The covid-positive patients at my hospital are twice as sick as the ones from last year, and all are unvaccinated. So frustrating.

@HebrideanHecate Behold the brave and admirable men in your replies. For dudes who love to assert that Western feminists don’t care about Middle Eastern women, they don’t seem to give two shits about them either. 🤔

@Jennifer_Lee @virginiawolf @Furball @Ismat Sad that these women are sticking to ideological purity rather than trying to make meaningful change. Of course everyone is going to back-pat each other in this echo chamber, but these bullshit proposals will not work out in the real world.

@Ismat @FemaleIsNotAFeeling Absolutely agree. I just looked through that comment thread, and I’m sorry you had to deal with so much ignorance. I’m a South Asian woman who cut ties with her family, but I’m not deluded and hateful enough to think every other brown woman is in the same position as me. I’m also in a relationship with a man of a similar cultural background, and I’m very happy with him (gasp). It’s despicable to have people with absolutely no insight into our lives dictating how we should live. That’s what will bring radfems down - expecting others (men) to reflect on their privilege while denying their own.
