Canavan seems to accept the planet heating up and that carbon emissions are playing a partSo many mixed messages though. We should try and fix things but the cost of doing so is too high at present and the rest of the world isn't acting so we won't have an impact but we should try?Confusing #auspol

Libs made the sensible, for them, choice of Sussan and Ted Today it's the Greens with apparently 3 contenders in Larissa, Mehreen and SarahI hope they don't land on co-leaders although I wouldn't be surprised I'm cheering for Larissa 🤞Although Sarah has the most experience being in the Senate since 2008, a long time for a 43yo #auspol

Quite an amazing election that just keeps on giving as the count continues in Bradfield The good news there is that Nicollette Boole has a 28 vote lead after a good day yesterday, another day or two to goThe other big news yesterday was Dorinda Cox leaving the Greens for Labor, obviously disappointing as a Greens supporter but I'm not sure she had a great relationship with the party so it might end up being the best outcome in the long run Main thing is the numbers stay the same with Labor (29) and Greens (10) having the numbers to pass legislation in the Senate on their own (39)Of course the other option for Labor is with the reunited LNP, a path I'm sure they'll use quite often Any twists left? I'm guessing there probably is #auspol

Larissa Waters interview on RN Breakfast this morning re the Dorinda Cox defection, touches on the proposed super changes as well i.e. waiting to see what the Government is putting forward in terms of changes. Definitely not keen on politicians being exempt Handled it well imo#auspolhttps://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/radionational-breakfast/larissa-waters/105369726

A couple of different interviews this morning re the Productivity Round Table the Treasurer is putting together and WFHInnes Willox, yep he is still around running the business line and the Treasurer touching on it briefly He thinks they can find common ground which is potentially a little concerning but see where it lands The unions will obviously be in the room as well so that's encouraging :solidarity: Talk of moving away from a 9 to 5 work day makes sense though, that's not as much of a thing anymore for many. The question of course is how does that gel with shift allowances, the length of the work day and overtime?Bring on a 30 hour 4 day week imo, for the same money #auspol

After seeing who is on Insiders the Sunday Shot wins out but mostly because I can stay in bed to watch it Not sure I'll stick it out though given it looks like being about what the US will do with Iran rather than Auspol related...I guess it's kind of big news but still#auspol #Insiders #TheSundayShot

Works out the timing of the discussion was timely with the bombing announced just as the show finished I saw this quote the other day, seems appropriate "You can bomb the world to pieces but you can't bomb the world to peace"Ideally the Australian government would condemn the actions of Trump but they obviously won't do that. Hopefully we don't get involved with whatever happens next unless absolutely necessary #auspol #TheSundayShot

Not surprising that Penny Wong is supporting Trump's strikes on Iran, the Liberals obviously doing the same The Greens the only ones calling out the action, as far as I can tellQuestion is how far that support will go with Trump now posting on social media about regime change?Obviously it will depend on how Iran responds but it would be madness if we haven't learnt from the mistakes of the past #auspol

@MsDropbear42 @feather1952 If AI is right, as Lord Acton said "Power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely"Governments need to be held to account and the best way of doing that is for them to fear they can lose power at the next electionEdited to correct the quote

@Nonilex it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, there are definitely pros and cons Apparently Bluesky is asking all its Australian customers to verify their age or have their accounts restricted. Reddit cancelling accounts where age isn't confirmedThere will be broader consequences as well, more kids playing sport sounds like a positive until you realise it'll make the current shortage of facilities in some cities worse Introducing a duty of care for the social media platforms would be a better approach imo

@Nonilex I should have held off for your next toot lolThanks for that. I wonder if it's part of why Trump announced the change?Note. I blame being in 2026 already for my premature response 🙂
