@staringatclouds @ixtlidekami @cattailnu Especially editing books. It's never perfect (Every edit introduces possible new errors), but sometimes you just have to decide it's done.

@elliswyatt @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodon That is some of the most white male, classist drek I have ever read. Lots of things stop people from competing with current businesses. Try getting a business loan when you are a poor black woman, for example.

@elliswyatt @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodon It does take money to create any sort of competitive business. It isn't enough to create the words, you have to market them. And when you are subject to the same constraints that the majority of people in this country are, then you come back and talk to me. BTW, you just invalidated your own argument that anyone can compete with your poor white men example. Pointing out the flaws in your arguments doesn't mean I hate all white men or that they are enemies. That statement is pure gaslighting.

@elliswyatt @vivsmythe @rabia_elizabeth @bookstodon So you want people to steal your words and profit off them? Odd idea.

#WritingWonders Day 13 - Describe your MC's hair.Gelb doesn't have hair; he has fur. It is a rich shade of brown, is about half an inch long and completely covers him. To human eyes, Gelb (and all other Delebians) looks like a rather large, upright otter. He is not happy when people call him that though as he is not an animal but a person.

@cattailnu The students knew they were supposed to be sad when Master Diablo died. But they weren't.Of all of the masters at the college of music, he was the strictest. He punished anyone who he decided had not practiced long enough or hard enough. A wrong note would gain the student a smack on the wrist. (Not hands, he would never risk damaging hands.) The smacks weren't strong enough to damage, but still, they hurt.So really, the students were relieved, until...In first class day after his death, a group of students gathered in the instruments classroom to meet their new teacher. It was the class period for guitar studies. As the students picked out the instruments to use, none of them chose the guitar that had belonged to their former master. It was a pretty thing, ornately carved and well polished. And everyone knew it had a better tone than any other guitar in the room. But the students hated that guitar that Master Diablo had used to shame their performances. The class began and it was clear even to the rankest beginner that no one had bothered to practice. The teacher shook his head, trying to decide what to do. But the guitar knew what to do; It emitted a screech that had everyone covering their ears. The teacher pointed to one student. "Take that out of the room. We can't concentrate with that noise."Thom gingerly picked up the guitar, which frankly was freaking him out. The sound stopped. He put the guitar down; the screech resumed."I'd say that guitar wants you to play it," the teacher said.Shaking, Thom returned to his seat with the eerie guitar. The exercise started again. Whenever Thom played a wrong note or missed the correct timing, the guitar shocked him. At first he was getting shocked every minute, but by the end of the lesson , he was getting shocked much less and his playing had significantly improved. It seemed that Master Diablo had not let a little thing like death stop him from teaching.

@Rasp I'd love to write a nonbinary character. But I don't understand well enough how to handle it. Perhaps you could give us some guidelines for what you would like to see in such a character to make that character realistic?

@LadyDragonfly How can we "agree to disagree" when what they want causes actual harm, even death, to real live (not potential) human beings?

@nanook @LadyDragonfly If by this you mean abortion, then I submit to you that it is not a person (legally or morally) until it is born. Even the Christian Bible says the person is not ensouled until taking the first breath. It is not murder in any sense of the word. When a woman is pregnant she carries a parasite. It is always allowed to get rid of a parasite , particularly one that may be harming you.And harm does not mean it must be harm to just your health. Harm to your ability to make a living, harm to your ability to finish your education, harm to your ability to survive an abuser, harm to your reputation, harm to your existing family because you will not longer be able to care for them. All of those are valid harms. Did you know in Judaism that the needs of the already existing people (including not just the pregnant woman but her existing family) MUST take precedence over the potential person? So banning abortion also violates the first amendment.

@nanook @LadyDragonfly In the first place there is no god. That's just a fairy tale. In the second place, it is a parasite until it can live without leaching off her body. Pregnancy is dangerous for women. They are entitled to look out for themselves first and anyone who doesn't think that is morally bankrupt in every way. It's not a baby, it's only a potential human. And if there were a god, why does he allow so many pregnancies to end in miscarriage if he is all that concerned about fetuses? If there is a god, he is the biggest abortion provider of all.
