@Sandra It may be a bit doomy, but I think (and as a former environmental researcher for twenty years I think my thoughts bear some weight) it is not doomy enough. I fear that we may have passed the point of no return, there may be some time left if we just stop.But how could we do that? Reduce earth population to a fraction of a percent of today? I shudder when I think how that could happen … so … perhaps it is too late for any sunshine endings …

@dm_draco Going in to a new companys codebase right now, and. Feel this so much!They haven’t had a “real” coder in the team for a couple of months so most actual knowledge is by seconhand off-boarding-to-my onboarding and I swear I have had almost exactly this exchange several times already.

@futurebird heh, I think of both the Roman Republic and the Athenian ”democracy” that had a problem with their politicians getting hauled to court right after their office ended by their political opponents. Sometimes for good reasons and sometimes not. I wonder if that was one of the reasons the Romans started to send the “going out of office” politicians to work in the provinces for a handful of years. To cool everything down a bit.(they where all corrupt by todays definitions)

@alexwild @futurebird @llewelly oh, interesting, I didn’t know it wasn’t decided from the egg but until the puppae-stage.How intriguing that there are gradients, that is probably a good thing from a evolutionary pressure view, with a sudden shift in circumstances , there is always a chance that there is a gradient form that may fill a new slot in the evolutionary chaos lottery

@lextenebris I got to play a TI4 game with real enthusiasts once, it was a treat (8 players all expansions, took a whole day) but perhaps not I want to play every weekend (I dislike dice).I have a dedicated soloplay table, that would be sutiable for a game played with the music from 2001 in the background, slowly pushing cardboard pieces towards the moons of Saturn.

@lextenebris I kind of lost my faith in highly dice driven games by the way of Arkham Horror, it didn’t matter how we cooperated, planned or carefully set up the situation, when we where unable to roll even one 5 or 6 on dice pools of 10 dice … it was a bust.I have my eyes on Arc, I love Root (but the dice, the dice) there has been a very mixed bunch of opinions on the game so it will be interesting to see it in real life.

@futurebird I really miss one thing these days when I read, and that is footnotes. I encountered them for the first time as a little whelp when reading Jack Vances Planet of Adventure and he put quirky “facts” at the bottom of the pages here and there. Never seeing that these days …

@futurebird As other have pointed out, there is no indications _in_ the bible that Satan is a fallen angel, that is just things the church added later. But what I what to point out is that God actually cheats in the end. Satan is right about Job giving up on God, but God steps in, scares Job to fall back into the fold and I think it is so beautiful.
