NHS has decided to dispense with women’s privacy and dignity. This document is terrible: using sex and gender interchangeably, using that idiotic phrase “sex assigned at birth”, men’s feelings are more important than sick person’s family members’ wishes. I hope I am never in an NHS hospital in a coma and my husband has to fight to make sure I’m not sexually assaulted by a man pretending to be a woman - as we know, members of staff and fellow patients had assaulted women, some became pregnant as a result. Couldn’t agree more. The very obvious solution, indeed the only ethical and workable one, is making sure women everywhere are educated and living in a secularised country. The less religious and more educated women are, the fewer babies they have - conversely, the highest birth rates are still in countries like Niger, Yemen and Afghanistan, where men use religion to keep girls uneducated and to have control over their bodies. But obviously white supremacists don’t give a flying monkey’s about brown women, they just want to dominate white women and force them to have white babies. Population explosion is actually the very source of all the problems - environment, housing, mental ill health, backlash to women’s rights, terrorism, all of it is down to the fact that we’ve gone from 1 billion in 1800 to 7,5 billion now, and the shitty political situation in the US is also down to the fact that, in the US, white people will soon be a minority, and populism in Europe down to the fact Africa’s population is booming. But you will never find anyone say that thousands of species are endangered because they are too many people consuming too much, needing more and more housing, it’s “habitat loss”. Poisoned oceans, deforestation - too many people. Terrorism - too many jobless, frustrated young men. Demography is everything yet because the only ethical solution is empowering women everywhere, which includes free and easy abortion, and free and easy access to contraception, people talk about recycling and electric cars instead. @MonsterousBee

@Pollyanna I think it might be true that the girls are more sheltered in some cases (I certainly was not, my parents were rubbish at preparing me for dealing with creepy men), though some young girls, who were on Woman's Hour maybe 2 months ago talked about unbelievably high levels of street harassment they were still getting. I don't think there are fewer creeps - in fact, they are probably more, inspired by porn - I think it's the libfems' influence.
