@design_RG I meant the street cars.We call them trams here.Cable cars are just called Cable cars, (or death traps, if the gov runs them)@jump_spider

@freemo Well um...Nuclear option would be to just include a switch to turn off all bots from showing app on your feed. But that still doesn't solve the issue of the load on the server.I'm thinking of an interaction based rating system. If people are interacting with a bot, we let it stay. But after one month of low interaction, we make the bot pay in order to continue.@TheSecularOne @inditoot

@freemo Three flags and the system automatically silences the account or if it is on your own instance puts a temp block.Moderator reviews the situation and decides appropriate action.(There is a possibility that this could lead to flag-abuse but then we would know the offenders.)This could limit the destructive radius of the offender.------------Frankly I don't see any issue with banning them.------------I'm thinking about this bot issue. That's an unresolved problem, degrading the experience and affecting the signal to noise ratio.@TheSecularOne @inditoot

@freemo ------------------Bot issue. There are two scripts I have found so far.1️⃣ One that uses the Mastodon.py library, but you need the 'Unique Mastodon app key' to access the bot, and hence we can flag a bot when we see one.2️⃣ There is a simple command line script that only takes in your username password and source twitter feed. No idea if this bot goes unnoticed.Oh my !! I'm beginning to think this is an issue that is arrising out of the decentralised operating-mechanism of mastodon.I think a UI mod could take care of this issue for the client.I have a desire to break my head solving this issue.(no matter how unqualified I am) I sense a growing itch approaching.@TheSecularOne @inditoot

@design_RG My first exposure to a computer was in a cybercafe in 98The first site i visited was mykindasite.comit was a site full of games and fun stuff you could to.The rate at that time was 10rs/hour---------------------In India,Computers didn't reach people's houses till the early 2000sAnd for most, the centralised web is their first experience in computing.-----------------I still remember using the dial up connection, I would sing the dial up tone!!!And my parents yelling at me for always being online and keeping the phone engaged !!Good ole days of 52kbps internet!!@Natomatic @nilanjanaroy

@design_RG Hey thanks.Never really knew much about Gab, except for their highly memeable mascot. I just use safari with adblock. Never explored brave either. Thankyou for this. I really like the concept of Dissenter.🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸If one sticks a massive boulder in a stream of running water, they would be foolish to assume that this would stop the downstream flow.Entropic / Chaotic systems like human society are always going to try and reach towards their natural state. Any attempts to stop this will at max cause a delay, but you can never stop the motion, never. The internet is part of human evolution. By it’s very nature its an extension of collective thought.Tribes survived because of collective thought, they communicated ideas through songs, dances, tribal art, sculptures. This is how humams attained some level of synchronicity and this augmented the collective strength of tribes. Thus improving their chances of survival and producing viable progeny.🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸If tech companies try and control narratives it is only a matter of time that the blocked stream would start overflowing, flood the surrounding area and then either find a new path to flow downstream or somehow reach the old path and continue Dissent is inevitable. This very dissent could actually lead to a permannet change in the way the internet works. The internet has a way of things. It’s nature is quite divine. It is not for man to excercise jurisdiction over it.All attempts at hitting a wall with your forehead will only lead to concusions and bruises. The internet is a force beyond the control of a few tech companies.Where will it take us, we don’t know. But the engine’s running, we are on top gear, the windows are down and the wind is cool.Let’s just enjoy the view.🌴 🚌🌬 🌳 🌲#FoE #FreedomOfSpeech #Philosophy #Programming #BigTech #Censorship@rodolpho

@freemo We know you’re busy doing great things. We don’t ever wanna be a burden on you. We really hope we don’t make you feel obliged to reply to all the peasant crap we post.As it is its a privilege to get to talk to the many brilliant people I have met here that I could otherwise never have encountered. But we shouldn’t push it. People have lives.Goodluck with your venture and we hope it takes off with an unmatched escape velocity.

Sorry for having disappeared this way.My cat had developed Pyometra. Had to rush in for surgery. Luckily we caught it before it could spread. There is still some infection in the vaginal stump, but tackling it with antibiotics, good food and love. She is 95% in the clear.@design_RG

So I have realised that I'm quite a shoddy programmer. This is what happens when you learn from "Instant" online courses : You skip over the fundamentals. So to remedy that I"m on a journey.I am currently following a course of udemy:###Computer Science 101: Learn Computer Science to become a better Programmer and Software Engineer.-------------------The course basically teaches you what the Big(0) is and also teaches the various memory models like Arrays and Linked Lists (It's more of a close to the metal approach)####This course is helping me understand memory, after @design_RG exposed me to drum memory. I got fascinated with the way the register works and everything and now i want to first understand CompSci fundamentals before jumping into languages. But the problem is that I feel Memory is only part of the equation. The reason I decided to get into CompSci at 29 was because I was interested in Logic.I wonder if anyone knows a good cheap online resource to understand the fundamentals of Algorithms. As I've always known that these courses that teach the rocks of this craft always have the word Data Structures and Algorithms in them,I have a course that covers Data Structures in a language agnostic way.Anyone know of a similar cheap course that covers Algorithms too?? Does this even exist or is it a product of my imagination?https://www.udemy.com/course/computer-science-101-master-the-theory-behind-programming@tek @kornel @namark @raman @fahrni @mngrif @jump_spider @rodolpho @shibaprasad @Gomario @EdS @freemo

What a bunch of beautiful people!! You all have been so helpful.I like the book recommendations but I don't know if my ADD will let me go through them, but then again, no pain no gain right? The code challenges route is something that I frankly never looked into. It's surprising how a nudge from some experienced devs pushes you down the right direction.I don't get enough practice and this gamified approach to learning development may just be what I'm looking for.Thankyou all for the love !!======@freemo I think there are undeserving candidates in every field of expertise. In fact, at least 80% of craftsmen in any specialisation are "not good".The more demanding the area of expertise, the wider this ratio will be.From what I believe, it's just the 1% that actually create 99% of whatever the trade is involved in.Maybe it's the same for opensource? IDKThis is a very universal thing, in any field where the barriers of entry are low.I know many truly horrible programmers that make a lot of money in India, simply by being able to assemble a team of mediocre developers and delivering a project. Maybe that comes under the class of managerial skill of whatever. But as it is we don't reward people who are truly good, and hence there is less motivation to go around.(that's just my opinion, I haven't seen the world much to know a lot about this)==========@tek @kornel @namark @Raman @fahrni @mngrif @jump_spider @rodolpho @shibaprasad @Gomario @EdS @freemo @design_RG

@kravietz Yes we have swayed quite far away from standard evolutionary protocols. We have begun modifying our environment in order to increases chances of survival rather than modify ourselves.I have hope that someday soon we will figure out how to tackle over population. Will education work? we don't know. Maybe babies on lease will. @freemo Maybe the pandemic is the game. And the license holders are deep states. Each deep state designs their own strain of COVID19. And then they see which strain killed the most people and accordingly declare a winner.
