Fedi really suffers from a sort of “chicken and egg” problem where people aren’t joining because of their friends not being there.I have friends on fedi and Bluesky so I have to use both, but Bluesky has more.

I’ve been using both and I feel more comfortable making quick posts on Bluesky while I feel more comfortable making longer posts on fedi. Might be the post limits though. As for why people are flocking to Bluesky? Two things IMO:Friends - people want to talk to their friends, never mind if the service has less features. It’s why Twitter is still around despite Elon constantly making it a toxic place to use, and the general audience moving away from Twitter seems to like Bluesky. Maybe it’s the familiarity of it as well. The audience on the fediverse making average users feel unwelcome. There was a post about Bluesky users being asked why they don’t want to join fedi and some of the reasons include having to abide by unwritten rules that weren’t a thing on the instance they were on, or feeling restricted as if they were posting on LinkedIn rather than the Twitter they once knew. Add to that the very extreme sides of the fediverse and I can see why people would rather join Bluesky, despite the lack of features.

While I think the API side of things are better (everyone has to follow the Mastodon API here even when Mastodon lacks some features, whereas Bluesky’s API is basically near the same as Atproto’s), I definitely think they’re talking about the community more than anything. Things are a lot looser on Bluesky. There might also be some preconceived notions from negative experiences, too. Someone I know said that they hated Mastodon’s deck UI. Don’t know when that was but in any case it falls back into that.

I think this is another issue with fedi adoption over Bluesky, and why Bluesky is more successful despite not being federated and having less features. If people do understand federation, they would really like to see which servers are blocked before sign-up so they can go “oh okay, this server probably isn’t for me” and join another one. If they don’t want people to use ryona.agency’s tool, they really should look at making their blocked instances available to the public that wants to join them.

Yeah, it becomes a bit of a headache when people go “wait why can’t I talk to my friend?”. I had this joining an alternative instance, recently and had to delete my account there.FWIW, there’s also Fediseer which is hosted by dbzer0 iirc (former r/Piracy mod who got kicked out by Reddit admins). furry.engineer is already on there and submitting their info. You get the option to guarantee instances, as well as give hesitations or full-on censures.Squawk.social has one hesitation and it’s an automated one that’s because you’re using Cloudflare, so nothing much to worry about: https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/squawk.social

I don’t think Fediseer is supposed to be a “universal blocklist” per se (like how thebad.space was). From their FAQ: https://fediseer.com/faq/engHow this information is utilized is up to the various instance admins. One is perfectly free to not utilize the fediseer whatsoever.

I agree that these automatic blocklists don’t help, though I’m more optimistic of Fediseer than not, given that it’s not an automatic, be-all-end-all solution. No, it’s not perfect, moderation is messy. But IMO Fediseer does a better job, it’s up to the instance owner to judge. The blocked side of fedi can be another extreme that turns off outsiders with some of their posts, ngl. You also have the “blocked side” and the trigger-happy side, and the visible clash between the two, and then the entire fediverse is wondering why people are choosing Bluesky instead or staying on Twitter.Personally I like the way Awoo handles moderation, only fully blocking in the absolute worst case scenario, which has made finding another instance hard for me ngl.

I’m always late to the furry flavour of the week. I didn’t get the appeal of Incineroar at first, not helped by the Litten v. Popplio rivalry when Sun/Moon was coming out, but now he’s my Smash main I get him.Same for Legoshi from Beastars, he was around for a hot minute when Beastars was hyped up, but I watched Beastars this year and he clicked for me.And honestly? I think that’s for the better. I get to appreciate things on my own terms instead of giving into fandom hype.

I’m inclined to believe the Washington Post here. This doesn’t come out of nowhere (and if it did, Reddit should sue), and Reddit has a history of lying - they said similar things with regards to the API, and proceeded to defame the developer of Apollo, their most popular client, multiple times. Not to mention, Elon is already doing this with Twitter, and the Reddit CEO has spoken positively about Elon.https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/20/23925504/reddit-deny-force-log-in-see-posts-ai-companies-deals

How much is YouTube involved with SSSniperwolf, for them to make this softball of a response?

I’m personally optimistic of the fediverse - I think it will thrive in the future to the point where it’s as easy as signing up to Bluesky, but it’s kind of in growing pains right now.

After I got stung by Discord deciding to just shit itself after an Arch (er, EndeavourOS) update, I’m giving Nobara a try. For context, Nobara is a distro based on Fedora by GloriousEggroll, the guy who makes Proton-GE, which is a version of Proton with more experimental patches intended to get some Steam games working on WINE before Valve’s official version. So far, first impressions are… really good. But not perfect. Everything works as it should, software is set to some sane defaults already and Fedora in general has a less janky vibe compared to Arch. Though I’ve had some small issues. For instance, OpenRGB hardware sync plugin not importing though the effects one does (why hasn’t that been merged with the effects plugin?) and I had a small lockup trying while a Flatpak package installed.Hopefully those get fixed and those are just one offs, because I’m liking it right now.

Essentially, Google has decided the cat and mouse game against adblockers is worth their time and energy, so you’re gonna have to update your adblocker lists a bit more frequently.RT: https://chaos.social/users/gsuberland/statuses/111261066418070696
