Let me make sure I understand this: A #Tesla #Cybertruck explodes, & the first thought of anybody anywhere is not to shrug & say 'well what did the owner expect?'

@futurebird The driver. He was inside when it exploded. (The vehicle automatically locked itself when its electrical system went offline. So the LV Sheriff personally contacted Musk who personally had Tesla admins remote in to unlock it for the cops.)

@HoustonDog @futurebird I remember that press wasn't kind to Amy but I think you may be thinking of Chelsea Clinton. We hadn't gotten quite that disgusting when Amy was a kid.(& what Rush called Chelsea was absolutely infuriating. Every time it came up I was flabbergasted that people who wanted to be regarded as decent human beings weren't enraged by it.)

@futurebird @HoustonDog Yeh even as a man in his late 20s it infuriated me. That should've been the end of Limbaugh's career, but instead he was celebrated for it & the worst the center would deliver in critique was a shrug.

@futurebird I was pretty down on serialism when Nixon in China came out but since then I've taken my grump pills & yeah, I also unironically like it. Bonus "outtake": The Chairman Dances, which is incredible. (TBF I can kind of see why they might cut a 13m dance movement from an opera.)https://youtu.be/eSuLpMnjNbw

@futurebird One most likely to believe it: The mob boss who owns laundromats. One it's most likely to be true of: Aging Politician.

@futurebird my variation on this is that I usually keep closer to the chest about what's going on. One WiP (currently back-burnered, but I will return to it) I've done a LOT of thinking about & there are some surprises in it; when I show parts to people, I have to work very hard to limit what I say in response to their feedback, & sometimes that also means keeping my request vague: "Tell me how you read character X." Nothing specific.

@futurebird these days I mostly use group feedback for two things: 1. test for mood & voice2. spur to keep moving

@bortzmeyer @evacide So many of the issues are sufficient on their own that I'm not sure it matters which is worst.

@futurebird as a species, generalist. But peculiarly, it arises I think from rapidly changing environments, each in turn applying pressure to specialize: the specialization often needed to happen in time frames that evolution couldn't address, so the repetition of the meta-pattern over time drove us toward the ABILITY to specialize. As inidividuals we also face pressure to specialize, & forget our innate talent for general application.

@futurebird Put another way: The ability to specialize is a general ability.

@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon I dunno but it's cute how they wear an aspirational age on their backs. Personally I'd go for something a little lower but that's just me.

@foone going back even farther, you could order share/freeware on 5.25 inch diskettes for $1 each.

@foone For reasons I should probably do some work on I hung onto a lot of those 5.25" diskettes long past the point where I had a drive to read them or a system that would run the software on them.

@futurebird axiomatic among big city mayors that one should never give an order to cops unless you're pretty sure they'll obey. seems to be interpreting that as 'don't try to give orders to cops.'

@futurebird we have a TV but it is only ever used to watch streaming services or YouTube. Never used for watching broadcasts or scheduled programs.

@futurebird read a Feghoot 50ish years ago that ended on a punchline with Reginald Feghoot (as a British army officer) saying something like "you have to ask the second left turn ant."

@futurebird Forcing us to use hard-to-read typefaces will make our eyes stronger. Or something.I don't want to hand anything to Marco; I will say that to the extent State was using Calibri in printed documents, they shouldn't have been. They should've been using Cambria. That having been said, there's arguably not much reason to default to sans-serif fonts for screen use anymore, either, since most screens are above 300dpi now. Again, NOT Times New Roman.

@futurebird I've never understood what's supposed to be paradoxical about the Fermi Paradox. It always seemed to be more about Enrico's fears than anything else.
