PSA: there is a new fedi instance called mastodon[.]technology. Confusingly, it is running Pleroma. People behind it set up a @Tech account, and reached out to me (and I can only presume others).I told them in private what I am telling everyone in public now: I find it very sketchy, based on the interaction with that account, and on mastodon.tech-lookalike domain.I have on good authority they are in no way affiliated with or endorsed by mastodon.tech. Your account is valuable and should be protected.Unfortunately, the nature of decentralization means that it's very common to make alts and flood the #fediverse with impersonated accounts. There already are numerous twitter mirror sites that so just that!Verification is a special #mastodon feature similar to twitter verification that ties your login to a specific token that will federate with any other ActivityPub compliant software. Meaning even other instances will recognize a verified account as the genuine user.If you had a 100 or more followers on twitter then I advice you make a verification request to your admin immediately. The best way to get seen is to use #VerifyMe in your bio or in your posts.It's a very easy and quick process that only requires the press of a button, stay safe new fedizens!!
