I don't think I'd survive as a vegetarian. I don't mean that being a dick, I wish I could. I have such a bunch of food intolerances that I wouldn't be able to get by. Most fruit. Many pulse. Such veg. Can't most of em.

I dodged death from an IRA bomb, missed it by minutes. It was a constant threat through my youth. I grew up in a British military town and it was an absolute revelation when I learned there were two sides to the story, because you wouldn't know it from the media, from school, from the people around you.

There was this super weird thing where British broadcast media weren't allowed to play clips with Sinn Fein (IRA political wing) people talking. So they were in the news, talking but had to be dubbed with an actor's voice. We were supposed to think this was all very normal.

A quick anecdote. Travelling home on the train from London to the South Coast late one night, gone 10pm, winter time: The train pulled in at a deserted country station that it shouldn't stop at, and we were all told to get off the train. There was an IRA bomb threat and that was it, service finished and no more trains. No taxis, no buses, nothing. Just abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Fun times.
