@stux I'm not surprised this is a tactic given that mass reporting innocuous tweets, just to get people suspended (quite often trans folk), was a popular form of targeted harassment and Twitter didn't care why the reports were coming in and didn't seem to have any idea that sometimes people act in very bad faith.

One of my colleagues didn't realise I was trans feminine until I talked about a certain experience at a conference last month.This is despite having worked together for about 6 months and my pronouns being given as "they/them".Therefore, this colleague is absolutely ripe for the "oh yeah, haggis were once real, they were hunted to extinction" gambit.Wish me luck.

@YorksBylines my established rights, as small as they are as a non-binary person, aren't up for debate and trying to frame things as a question and argument that needs to be won again gives credence to transphobic positions that seek to remove established rights.I honestly thought Bylines was better than this.

No trans person suggests this, instead we advocate following the science and ensuring policies such as reducing T levels.

@YorksBylines I've been thinking about this more and it is absolutely awful.We don't do this with other minorities, we don't cloud a white supremacist in the language of "a Caucasian" and then pivot to a false situation speaking of a black person who is painted into a false position of relative power. This is a carefully chosen framing, to make it seem like the average woman is the underdog who is being impacted by these discussions. She isn't.

@YorksBylines and further, this falsely suggests that there hasn't been a solution for trans athletes. There has. The solution in fact worked so well, favouring cisgender women, that it wasn't even a matter for the past decades where there have been testosterone level monitoring of trans athletes (who have won very, very little).This really illustrates the entire problematic framing of the article. It entirely ignores that many of the "problems" are settled and solved.

There aren't very many terfs and gender critical types over here on Mastodon - because they are happily having their accounts reinstated on Twitter where they are very vocally shouting abuse.Why isn't the abuse from anti-trans bigots illustrated? It's hardly like it is difficult to find.

@YorksBylines I kind of get the attempt of the article, if I take a charitable position. It is clumsy, it is poorly thought out and it again centres the opinion of cis people over trans people. But in doing so it is giving an air of legitimacy to bigoted positions and suggesting they have even a sliver of merit.

@elizabethveldon @YorksBylines and that isn't even just on Twitter, it's everywhere!Then again, it's clearly better journalism to ignore all of the blatant transphobia, gender critical "leaders" calling for our numbers to be reduced, all of the slurs, all of the personal images shared without consent, the surgical images designed to shock, the obvious lies from detransitioners and instead find those low follower, false-flag, pretend trans accounts being mean.

I installed Pop!_OS and I have been enjoying playing around with it. It seems that Linux *hates* my integrated and dedicated GPU combo and refuses to output correctly to an external monitor. Irksome, but not a major issue as I don't think I will use it to game. Windows will remain for that.What is more annoying is that two finger swipe was working as "backwards" for all of my browsers and then just seemed to stop a couple of days after install. Any tips for this?#linux #popos

I am loving the considerably improved battery life over Windows 11 so if could get some things working just a touch more consistently and better then it would be great for writing and such!

@mur2501 nope! Nothing really changed for mouse / trackpad settings. I have been adding some extensions for gnome extensions but that is about it!

@mur2501 These are my settings currently. Two finger scrolling in general is pretty happy, and it mainly seems to be that there are some problems with the browsers (Firefox, Chromium) picking up the gesture. The only one that looks off there is disable while typing which definitely doesn't work!
