Some in-house styles insist on capitalization of titles wherever they appear, but a job title is not a proper noun and it's almost never unique. In my mind, lowercase titles project more confidence. Uppercase suggest we are trying to prove something. #rant #words #amediting

"Bellwether" has been misspelled for centuries. It comes from a lead sheep ("wether") that had a bell tied around its neck. "Wether" is a castrated sheep or goat. It's uncommon enough, thankfully, to give us a squiggly underline in spell checks.

I suspect the term precedes the song, but if the reference isn't to the song or movie anyway, capital Valley for a specific, known geographic designation and lowercase girl. But capitalize Grammar Girl as there is only one GG.

"Voila" is the spelling for the French exclamation pronounced "vwa-lah." Don't confuse it with the instrument spelled "viola" (three syllables).We think the root of the word for this instrument, along with "violin" and the "fiddle," are the Roman goddess of joy, Vitula.Voila (or voilà) roughly translates to "Look here!," from "voir," to see.
