Soon I might be helping a musician on SoundCloud to onboard into V4V. I have never myself used Lightning although I have listened to every episode of Podcasting 2.0 and have a pretty good technical background (iOS Mobile dev by trade)I was thinking about pointing my friend toward RSS Blue, since they are the only hosting company right now catering to V4V musicians. Don't they also support the Value Tag? Any other advice or suggestions?@adam @AbleKirby @SirSpencer @dave @StevenB

@StevenB @adam @AbleKirby @SirSpencer @dave Thanks, Steven. I'll keep those options in mind. Maybe I will try testing those services myself so I know what the onboarding process is like.My friend says he is removing all his music from SoundCloud next month. Tired of the monthly cost among other reasons. He also uses Spotify and Youtube, and said he will be posting to YT from now on since it is free. So I think cost is probably a big factor for him.

@adam @AbleKirby @SirSpencer @dave @StevenB Btw, I found out that yes, SoundCloud gives you an RSS feed, but it only includes songs you upload after you turn on the feed. It won't retroactively include your old songs.

@harvhat exactly 😩 Hopefully I can convince this musician that V4V is worth it, considering he isn't making hardly any money from the mainstream platforms.

@Boo_BuryMothman my musician friend is taking too long to respond. Since he is removing all his songs from SoundCloud in December, but he made them all available for free download from SC until then, how about you and I get a head start so that by the time he replies to me, you will already have his music downloaded, ok?He has too much to save all of it, so lets just start with his albums.https://soundcloud.com/greystarmusic/albumsThen when I talk to him I'll let you know if I get the green light from him.

My musician friend sounds interested in V4V, and I'd like to invite him to https://podcastindex.social I know registrations are closed but if he needs help setting up his wallet and things, I'd like him to have an account here. Would that be okay? Are you trying to keep the discussion focused solely on development and not onboarding podcasters and musicians? I understand if that is the case, just please point me in the direction of a better forum for that purpose.@adam @dave

On yesterday's PC2.0 ep162, @adam pointed out hosting companies are the source of stats verified by the IAB, and they are the ones advertisers deal with.podcastindex.org has the insight of V4V streaming sat stats because it serves as the shim for the value tag. If hosting companies want these valuable stats, they should start supporting the value tag. This is perfect incentive for them to start!

@adam @dave If the goal is for podcasters to leverage this data, they should get it from their hosts or check monitor their lightning node.If the goal is for apps to get in on this, then your idea to enable compensation for listening to ads is one good way. But personally, I don't see why podcast app developers need to track listening stats for advertisers. Empowering hosting companies seems like the most direct way of accomplishing this.

@adam @dave Those are good ideas to put the power to "monetize" with ads in the hands of the podcaster, which would especially benefit self hosters.I care more about the point of my first post, that supporting the value tag is a good incentive for hosting companies to start thinking positively about using the value tag for stats. E.g. your description of @Todd_Blubrry's proprietary stats analysis would really benefit from per-minute streaming sat stats (if he hasn't included it already)

@adam @js speaking of this statistic, did you ever find the original source for "more women listen to a podcast on its webpage?"

@dave after you talked about "A Secular Age" by Charles Taylor on the last episode of PC2.0, I want to suggest my favorite philosophy book "The Closing of The American Mind" by Allan Bloom. I think he may approach the same question from a somewhat similar perspective, but rather than blaming the decline of The West on Protestantism, he takes it back further to the Enlightenment. It has become my favorite book, and although I am a philosophy newb, it has inspired me to read all the classics.

@dave Didn't they brag about hiring the most PhDs in the early days? I think Dvorak said that.

@dave @js big RH fan but I rarely watch their live performances. It's funny to see how spastic Thom gets, but it is fitting for this song
