@grammargirl Not a suggestion, but an anecdote. I sent an email to a coworker using a plural "you". He asked who I meant. I told him to make it "y'all" instead and he was enlightened. (I live in the South.)

@grammargirl Assuming this is the same house I'm thinking of, I found it on Google Maps when it was first in the news and was surprised how far it seemed to be from the river. I assumed then there had been gradual erosion between the incident and Google's last photo. Amazing that was all at once!

@grammargirl I had a very similar thought when Mr. Kleinedler gave the very specific list of alternatives, but I don't think the timeline matches up. It seems "contact" was already widely (but not universally) accepted before we all got cell phones and the Internet. But the generic "contact" as a verb is practically a necessity with so many ways to contact someone today.

@grammargirl I came up with this to spell my last name, Seitz, but have yet to be in a situation where I didn't care if someone could spell my last name.S as in "see".E as in "eye".I as in "in".T as in "tsunami".Z as in "zymogen".

@aral In the arcade game you die if you try to cross the edge of the screen. In the Parker Brothers Atari 2600 version, it's a setting you can change.
