Trevor Harvey, chief executive of Stelrad – Europe’s largest radiator manufacturer – told City A.M. that the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is too narrow in its ambitions. He labelled heat pumps as “only one part of the solution to decarbonising the home” and encouraged the government to broaden the scheme to encourage homes to retrofit. https://www.cityam.com/why-theres-more-to-green-energy-than-heat-pumps-radiator-boss-urges-for-scheme-to-be-widened/

@matthannon Not quite what you are after, but I think that this is a piece of the puzzle: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cost-optimal-domestic-electrification-code(tl;dr TOC for space heat goes up ~50% in their model over BAU.)

@librarianshipwreck Ackshully ... IMHO boring invisible bits of AI (not Chat-GPT and friends) are already helping fix climate change, eg helping build a grid that can work well with high levels of intermittent energy... B^>

@collectifission My home is going to be forcibly purchased soonish and bulldozed. Nothing to do with renewables (except that mine will have to go). Significant infrastructure changes sometimes has this entrained.

@publius @collectifission Transmission and distribution infrastructure causes upset, mining continues to displace lots of people and poison land and has other externalities; solar is helping save EDF's bacon in France with nukes wavering in hot weather which waa what I assume what appeared to be ~6GW of exports from GB yesterday night (though I was only looking at NDF vs TSDF, so could be wrong).

@futurebird Even our peak month (prob Dec/Jan) including heat pump (we are all electric) will be under 500kWh - sunny London, UK...

@stfn My London UK based off-grid site that uses ~1W minimum needs ~1kWh of usable storage (220Ah Victron 12V gel) to get through the winter without shutting down.
