@GalacticTurtle touch is actually a pretty basic human need, which is why people might not react well when you're not comfortable with it. That can be misinterpreted as being not comfortable with them.But you're not alone. There are plenty of people who are averse to touch. Let your friends know that you have touch aversion and you're not a hugger to avoid any misunderstandings or awkward moments. They will appreciate this.

@PennyLope @HebrideanHecate sounds like one of the benefits of being male, he can afford to forget that he's talking to a man. My bet is that he won't forget he's talking to a man if the man in question is bigger, stronger, or higher status. Masculinity is all about status and dominance, so feeling weaker than would force him to be conscious of it again.

Something just occurred to me. When studying animal intelligence, biologists use the brain to body ratio to look for animals that may potentially be more intelligent. They don't look at absolute brain size. e.g. some very large animals have larger brains than humans but are still considered less intelligent. Dolphins are compared to pre-human hominids because the ratio is similar between them and higher than monkeys. But when comparing human males and females-men always talk about absolute size! They used to and sometimes still believe brain size proves men are smarter than women.And no surprise why they never go by brain ratio- men are 15-20% larger than women, but their brains are only 10% bigger. This means women have a higher ratio overall and should be treated as the higher intelligence. 😂 (I am joking please don't take this seriously or assume this single data point proves anything!)
