@stux Really? Nobody I've observed seems to believe the official line on this one. Even the most credulous US media outlets were pretty much rolling their eyes at the Kremlin's statements.

@stux There's also the whole "ha ha look at this loser who killed himself" thing he did in his trip to Japan.

@stux If he gets on the stand he goes to jail. He's constitutionally incapable of telling the truth. He will clearly and obviously perjure himself.

@stux If he had competent counsel all of this would be going very differently. That the lawyers who could effectively defend him immediately quit when the indictments came down is a pretty loud signal in this regard. He isn't going to plead out, his strategy is "Be President again" and while that isn't impossible, it's an extreme long shot.

@stux The penchant for Europeans to see Americans making a mistake, cluck their tongues, and then not only make the exact same mistake but something even worse, just remains baffling to me.

@Nazani @benroyce Nope, you're liable in that situation, AI or not. Free speech laws don't cover active harm or negligence. Speaking as a long time freelancer, before AI, it was blockchain. Before blockchain, it was video. Before video, it was "dynamic content" (i.e. keyword chasing.)And in the end what always happens is the promise goes unfulfilled and the company counting on it collapses.

@Nazani @benroyce What makes AI different is that the curtain hiding the problem is like three inches long and made of gauze. Nobody with a functioning brain should go anywhere near AI after hearing Sam Altman say "Don't worry we'll solve all these problems by inventing nuclear fusion!"

@fcktheworld587 @Nazani @benroyce It's a legally complex area, but the lack of human involvement is probably a big disadvantage here. Whenever I've heard about automated systems going wrong in the past (not a lawyer) the question is always why didn't a human intervene? If content has obvious problems, that becomes even more pressing.

@benroyce @fcktheworld587 @Nazani LOL JFC that's literally the one tool most webmasters use to comply with data privacy laws. Which is a whole separate conversation, but that's weaponized stupidity right there.

@stux Because it caters to the smug faux left who hate Biden (but have no effective replacement) and the right wing, who need chaos on the DNC side to have a prayer of winning.

@stux Yeah. I'm not saying sites and apps have no obligations but there is a burden on the user as well.

@benroyce @paninid Seriously I've gotten a dozen different definitions of the word "neoliberal." They tend to coalesce around the idea of "Fiscal conservative, social liberal" which is at least consistent, but then suddenly anybody the person doesn't like is a "neoliberal."

I understand the desire for thrilling narrative and also the need for people in charge to be competent regardless of morals, but Chump is obviously suffering from dementia and his Cabinet picks are bottom of the barrel ass kissers. Their incompetence is vastly more threatening than their malice, because when a crisis arrives, and it will, they will be caught flatfooted, just like COVID smashed the last Chump administration to pieces.

And no the Project 2025 guys, Elno, etc. are not evil geniuses or playing the long game. They're arrogant dilletantes who don't understand how things work. They view their ignorance of a topic as a sign of its unimportance.

The main problem with Captain America as a franchise is Marvel just can't lift the political weight it's accidentally picked up.

@munin It's also worth doing this because it destroys the bigot's belief they're "just saying what everyone else thinks." When they see coordinated, silent opposition, they quail.
