#introduction This should be my last introduction toot! I mentioned my professional focus (#neuroimaging #neuroscience signal analysis) in my last toot. Now, for my other non-research engagements...I am a #maker who uses tools like #programming #arduino #msp430 #raspberrypi #electronics and #3dprinting to prototype fun projects. I have my own fleet of 3d printers and support equipment. As a signal processing engineer, I'm also very interested in #sdr (software-defined radio). I'm working on two pet projects right now employing SDR and my maker tools for backyard #radio #astronomy and satellite signal reception. While not entirely novel end-goals, the work is very engaging and rewarding! I hope to package the results for science outreach in #steam in the near future. Everyone should expect neuroimaging research toots from me as well as updates on my projects and resources for #STEM and #STEAM engagement in the classroom. I hope to contribute to #edutoot by sharing my demos, resources, and projects for bringing innovative thinking, science, and engineering into the classroom. I love #biking and outdoor activities. I'm a novice in #photograpy (microscope as well as DSLR) and am looking for hints and suggestions for my entry into #astrophotography . Any advice? Let me know! I have a strong love of #fish and #aquariums, so expect my gushing about fish on occasion. I also have a pet parakeet, so expect some bird antics along the way! It can't all be work and seriousness, after all!

I admit I don't understand social media. I never have. I feel I'm a participant in an ongoing experiment along with everyone else who partakes, no matter the platform. For those who've been on #mastodon for years, I want to acknowledge that I, along with many others in the Twitter exodus, have abruptly entered your digital world. I am sure that brings forth many feelings and concerns. While I would like to call Mastodon my new social home, I know I'm still a guest in a digital world forged by those who invested in it long before my arrival. I appreciate any suggestions or advice from the community on how I can better fit in to the customs and expectations that have made Mastodon a welcoming "federation".I don't know how long I'll be here, but I'm excited to interact with the Mastodon community during my stay. It is my hope we can find a collective balance that allows for wide reach, small community feel, and personal control/choice. #mastodon #newbie #TwitterMigration

The Twitter Apocalypse apparently cloned me.When I first joined Mastodon, I had several failed attempts at creating an account. QOTO was (I thought) the first one that worked. Lo and behold... this morning I received a news communique from SDF. Apparently my SDF account was "confirmed" without actually requesting confirmation from me. That's somewhat disturbing. Nonetheless, now I have two "DoctorRinny" instances. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my SDF account... but I guess things happen for a reason. It will hang around for the time being, likely languishing. Filed under: I successfully cloned myself... now if only I can get my clone to do half of my work.#TwitterMigration #twitterapocalypse

@freemo - Professionally, I mostly do signal/image processing (eye tracking, fMRI, EEG, and DTI most recently in medical applications). My core foundation is mathematics though, so frankly anything involving data collection and analysis are fair game. I do embedded system programming and RF stuff too, but at a hobby level.

@freemo - I will also say that FDS seems quite slow. It may be an issue with my account or just system overload. Nonetheless, QOTO seems much more responsive and well-behaved at this point.

@freemo @icedquinn - I’m sensing some “Trailer Park Boys” and Swearnet vibes here! Gotta try to take things as light as possible. I always say that if you hate the CEO, become the CEO. (How can anyone claim to be the CEO of a decentralized system? I’d ask him if he’d bother responding.) I’m not much impressed with Mastodon. But sadly all current social media options leave much to be desired. I do like the majority of the people I’ve met here though. I’m not leaving… yet anyway.
