All of this is why it’s vitally important that Trump not just be indicted, not just be found guilty, but that he PAY by serving a serious, lengthy prison sentence. Otherwise, his supporters will receive exactly the message Trump has been sending them all along: Special people, people like Trump, can always walk away. …

Even the courtesies that the FBI and Department of Justice have been providing Trump so far—the courtesy warnings before indictments are produced, the waving of mugshots, the failure to impose any bail or travel restrictions—only serve to reinforce the message that, even when caught, nothing bad really happens. His followers see that. They internalize it. They live it. …

Trump himself keeps complaining that if the government can come after him, they can come after anyone, and in a way that's true: If Trump has to pay, then his promise to his supporters falls apart. Only by seeing that Trump receives punishment on the scale of anyone else charged with the same crimes can his supporters be convinced that their bully can’t protect them. That the next pardon won’t have their name on it. That eventually, everyone has to pay for their actions. …

That lesson had better be taught. It had better be clear. And it had better be soon.

It really does feel like this decision should be easy. I'm having trouble understanding why it's a good idea to sign up with another juvenile dude bro who can change the rules depending on what he ate for lunch.

To be fair, I have nothing against Noam Bardin. Seems like a good guy, and I like his traffic app (Waze). It's just that my experience with Post, so far, was that it didn't work very well. Hopefully that will change.

Stick with me here, because I'm going to talk about ticks. Ticks. Like the 8-legged parasites out to ruin your day hike. They are, indeed, loathsome. But they may also be exactly the superheroes we need right now. …

Tick bites can trigger Alpha-gal Syndrome, which causes an allergy to a kind of sugar molecule found in almost all kinds of mammals (cows, pigs, etc) but not in human beings. Those who develop the syndrome can have severe reactions after eating meat. …https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/alpha-gal/resources/alpha-gal-syndrome-factsheet.html

Right now, something like 100K people in the US have alpha-gal syndrome. That's a long way from how many people have celiac disease, which causes an allergy to gluten (approx. 2M people in US), but it's getting up there. The number is increasing because ticks are increasing. …

Rising temperatures due to the climate crisis are making a more tick-friendly world, They're expanding into new areas and increasing in number in their existing range. Within limits, ticks like it hot. So expect more ticks, more tick bites, and more cases of alpha-gal syndrome. …

Admittedly none of this sounds good so far. Except maybe it's exactly what we need. Because livestock production causes about 15% of global greenhouse gases. Also, feeding livestock now takes over 35% of all crops produced. …

If alpha-gal syndrome were universal, not only would we see an significant drop in greenhouse gases and we'd need much less land area for the raising of food. There would be more wild spaces, more green spaces, and a cooler world. …

But of course, even ticks (which are, still loathsome), aren't that common or that prolific. Neither does everyone who is bitten by a tick join the ranks of those with alpha-gal syndrome. Everyone in the world is not about to become allergic to meat overnight. …

So we can't count on ticks to save us in their icky, icky way. If we're going to cut back on eating meat, and reduce both the greenhouses gases and amount of land that goes to feeding that livestock, we can't count on little loathsome superheroes. …

Like everything else connected to the climate crisis, the solution is up to us. NOTE: Ticks also spread some genuinely unpleasant, disabling, or deadly diseases. That includes Lyme disease, Rocky Mtn. Spotted Fever, and even Typhus. Don't get bitten by a tick. Not even if you're looking to cut back on meat. Thank you.

The Russian Black Sea fleet has served a platform to direct hypersonic missiles into civilian structures across Ukraine, resulting in some of the most horrific war crimes of Russia’s unprovoked, illegal invasion. Those attacks continue due to the decision of one man.

The term "Xmas" or "X-mas" goes back at least to the 1500s and was based on the Greek letter chi being the start of "Χριστός" (Christ). It was used in church writings for centuries and is NOT a modern attempt to "take Christ out of Christmas." Merry Xmas.

The single “stay peaceful” tweet Trump supposedly issued during the violence on Jan. 6, which his supporters have often cited as exculpatory evidence, was actually written and posted to his Twitter account by Dan Scavino while Trump was refusing to act.https://abcnews.go.com/US/special-counsel-probe-uncovers-new-details-trumps-inaction/story?id=106131854

Many of the "institutes" and "think tanks" publishing papers denying climate change were just a couple of (quite nice, actually) women in an office on the sixth floor of Peabody Energy, the world's largest coal company. They make all those "CO2 is good for plants" products, too.
