So, you or a person you know has been diagnosed with a mental illness and are considering medical intervention.Here's my personal insight: Psychiatry is an incomplete science. Whatever meds you try on the first round are probably not going to be the perfect fit.To be brutally honest, there's a good chance you will never find the perfect balance, but you will find something that works well enough to get by on.Communicate with your provider(s)! If bad things happen with a drug (terrible physical side effects or mental instabilities), stop taking it. Call the doctor and try something else. Make a personal note outlining the bad drug and what happened. Seriously, you might change providers, or the doctor will forge they tried that one already... protect yourself.If you have a support system (spouse, family, friends), communicate with them, too. They are there for you, and will be better able to assist if they know what is going on with you.
