It's hard to imagine #StackOverflow made their decision without considering the fate #Twitter and #Reddit suffered. The idea of the #Fediverse making #Twitter or #Reddit irrelevant might be laughable.But #StackOverflow? Maybe not.The #Fediverse (and #Mastodon in particular) is teaming with "tech" people. The overlapping audience between the two has got to be high.

Today I'm having a discussion with a coworker about deadlines.The life lesson I'm trying desperately to impart is that if they meet that deadline, there will surely be another one after it. And another, and another, and...Knowingly making bad choices that lead to technical debt, all in the name of deadlines, is not acceptable.As a DBA, I'm sure they're tired of hearing me say "no".They need to learn to say "no" themselves. @D_J_Nathanson Good question! I haven't settled on anything particular yet.In my Windoze days, I used a batch file along with RoboCopy.exe. It has some command line switches to "mirror" one folder to another and only overwrite source files on your PC/source that are newer than what's on your backup device/target. That helps reduce the backup time a lot.

@D_J_Nathanson A smart person would probably recommend I write a shell script with similar logic.But I'm thinking I'll use the R programming language instead...if only because I know enough R to get the job done.

@D_J_Nathanson I should also add I backup all my personal data to external drives--I don't use the cloud and I probably never will.And yes, I use multiple external drives, with at least one kept offsite away from my home.

Every time I search for a new/different mutual fund to invest in, I want to throw up. Nvidia is the top holding in most funds. And the rest are a Who's Who of Big Tech companies. Maybe I need to look at Medium/Small market cap...🤔
