I am so damn pumped. My government classes are doing pamphlets as random political orgs I made up. One class group wants to write a song to accompany their pamphlet.My world history classes are doing zines as communists or anarchists trying to start a revolution during the Industrial Revolution.I have 13 days left in the semester, and I am so excited for these class projects. It is fascinating how so many people will ask me if I feel like I'm wasting the energy I've put into a PhD by teaching high school, or become incredibly condescending and assume that I am not good at research.By fascinating I mean it shows how American culture looks down on teaching as a profession and that it is shameful. Personally I think having people who are experts in their material teaching youth is positive. More PhDs I know are taking this track.

I genuinely love my job, but I really don't want to teach every single day. In fact there is Nothing I want to do every single day forever for 8 hours - even the things I love!Now I love teaching, and I love the direct impact it has - so I'm gonna keep doing it.But damn.Fuck the idea that if you don't YEARN to do your job everyday you're a terrible person.

Re #introducton time!I'm Riley. I'm a soon to be defending their dissertation PhD student. I study Political Theory.I don't want to talk about my dissertation but I am planning on burning a chapter of it after I'm done and then let it lie for a moment before trying to publish it.I'm also a soon to be independent scholar and high school history teacher at the moment I always have a billion projects going on and enjoy talking about them!
