@nugger With modern ARs weight is really their biggest issue. The answer is unironically return to tradition lol.A1/A2 handguards and lightweight barrels are very light. As for maintenance and durability-there are some here who have obviously never done any real work with an AR. I have. It’s plenty easy to maintain and durable. It does require maintenance but it really is minimal.The biggest issue I ever had with the system were the magazines. Things get worn out but rarely replaced.

As NUGGER said it’s a very mature system that has a huge amount of flexibility. It has no real flaws anymore.You want precision? Put a proof research barrel into a BCM upper and slap it onto a lower with a good trigger. Add a bipod and a scope and you can easily engage precision targets out to 600, maybe even 800.Want to go farther? Pull that barrel and replace it with a 6ARC or Grendel upper, and go to 1k + (I think 6 ARC doesn’t go transonic until 1300 yards).You want to plink? Get a $299 PSA freedom nitride rifle and have a stupid reliable, usably accurate truck gun.Want a jack of all trades? M16A1 or A4 with A2 handguards and an optic. Want to LARP as specops? Get a 10.3 upper and turn money into fireballs.It may not always be the best answer to the question of “What gun for X, Y, or Z”, but it’s always a good answer.
