@apps I post photos and interesting snippets about coins, tokens, medals - numismatics in general! Here are three from the last week: a #token featuring a super cute kitten, a #medallion of Saint Eligius, patron saint of #numismatics, and a 1723 Liard #coin from the French Dutchy of Lorraine, the Duke of which laid claim to being heir of the medieval kingdom of Jerusalem. #CoinCollecting

Apologies for many posts today - I was excited after the #AtoZChallenge :) In any case, I also discovered another server I could log into & search for hashtags like #coins & #Numismatics & see a whole bunch of posts I never saw before. I really wish the Fediverse had a simple way of seeing EVERYTHING posted anywhere on Mastodon with a particular hashtag! (@FediTips do you know, will me sharing posts help me see future posts from those servers, or do I actually have to follow those accounts?)

@FediTips Interestingly, some of those posts were on Mastodon.social, and I follow people on that server - so why wasn't I already seeing posts tagged with say #Coins from accounts on that server when I DO already follow people on that server?

Whatever you think of Charles III, can you believe it's been a year since his coronation? For #MedalMonday let's hark back to that day with this #medallion featuring the beautiful floral coronation emblem designed for the day, and the King's #cypher... or is it #monogram? Find out here: https://coinofnote.com/king-charles-iii-coronation-medallion/And hat tip to my favourite part, Penny Mordaunt, the "Sword Lady" who stole the show!#History #OnThisDay #CharlesIII #KingCharles #UnitedKingdom #Coronation #Emblem #SwordLady

I'm afraid I'm going to have to accuse everyone of not trying to guess the #MysteryCoin this time around! Surely SOMEONE knows it? @not_benis They've looked pretty much the same for the last 75 years, so not much more you can tell - actually there is ONE type which is slightly different on this side :) You get a mention! I don't think I've used the F word in my newsletter before....

The #MysteryCoin last week was of course the #Japan 5 Yen - the particular coin I had was from 1995, although the coin has been issued since 1949 and you'd only notice a difference in the first ten years when the script changed. A beautiful coin, a good chance to learn about Japanese Era names, and congratulations to all those who guessed!CC: @not_benis @FediThing @Takeshidude @tkinias @libroraptor @numismatics @histodons #SaturdayNightCoinShow #Numismatics #CoinCollecting #Currency #Money

One of the most popularly symbolic passages in the #Bible is in St Paul's letter to the #Ephesians - describing the "Armor of God". This is a popular theme on medallions, and I have one here which was a great opportunity to explore the passage, the meaning, and the #Medallion https://coinofnote.com/armor-of-god-medallion/#MondayMedal #MedalMonday #Numismatics #CoinCollecting #BibleStudy #WordOfGod #Theology @theologidons @numismatics

It's a bit late for #MedallionMonday but here is a beautiful pair of medallion #PMC from #Australia Post. The top one is the regular issue Battle of Normandy #medallion cover (with 2024 made). The bottom one is the limited edition #Impressions version, with foil printing, larger stamp block, gold coloured medallion and limited to only 250. I think this pair look great together. Today in history, Edward VII is proclaimed king of the United Kingdom, after the death of his mother Queen Victoria. He ruled from 1902-1910. @benis_redux I would not want you to be burdened by having to look at his countenance; therefore I am willing to take it off your hands - completely free of charge :DActually I'm sure it's not just me, but it's the newest UK monarch's portrait I'm still getting used to

On this day 400 years ago, the city of New Amsterdam was incorporated. Thanks to the band "They Might Be Giants", I instantly know that New Amsterdam is now called, New York. Here is their song "Istanbul (not Constantinople)": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XlO39kCQ-8And here is my Byzantine Follis I managed to squeeze in a reference to that song: https://coinofnote.com/518-27-justin-i-byzantine-follis/#SaturdayNightCoinShow #Numismatics #CoinCollecting #AncientCoins #Rome #Roman #Byzantine #History #Histodons @numismatics @histodons

The US Congress introduced medals to honour the bravery of the police officers who defended the US Capitol on January 6th 2021. To go with these, replica pieces were available for anyone to purchase. These have suddenly been removed from sale without any notice or explanation. A friend shared the news, but I will post the E-Sylum article here as it also links to a bunch of mainstream articles about the removal: https://www.coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n09.html#article29#News #Numismatics #USPolitics #Politics @numismatics
