We have a list of explicitly blocked IP ranges. However, a configuration oversight on our part only blocked these ranges on the "normal" routes. The "anubis-protected" routes didn't consider the challenge. It was not a problem while Anubis also protected from the crawlers on the other routes. However, now that they managed to break through Anubis, there was nothing stopping these armies. It took us a while to identify and fix the config issue, but we're safe again (for now).

For the load average auction, we offer these numbers from one of our physical servers. Who can offer more?(It was not the "wildest" moment, but the only for which we have a screenshot)

If you use Git via HTTPs and get rate-limited now, please provide feedback to us about your usage. Also, feel free to use SSH or extend your usage of caching, if possible.Today, we're struggling under the load of excessive Git cloning of all repos, and we have made the hard decision to restrict these operations for all users.Your code is free and libre, but not for sale to large actors.

We are still struggling with hardware failure on our primary machine. Several services like Forgejo, Weblate and Woodpecker CI are not yet distributed across our servers. To give us piece of mind when doing further investigation and hardware maintenance on that node, several services will be moved, starting with Forgejo tonight. This will result in some minutes of downtime while the instance moves from one mountain to another (our servers are named after mountains). Thanks for understanding.

We have migrated the primary Forgejo instance from "Kampenwand" to "Achtermann" now and everything is expected to run stable. Let us know if you face any issues. For some minutes, the page showed a banner with " WARNING: THIS IS A TEST INSTANCE. DATA CAN VANISH AT ANY TIME.". No data was at danger, or lost but we simply forgot to remove the warning before doing the actual switch.

For some minutes, SSH host key verification failed. If you accepted the new key, please restore the previous one. The keys are listed in https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/org/src/Imprint.md#ssh-fingerprints.The migration wasn't as smooth as we hoped but the impact has not exceeded our expectations. We apologize for the inconvenience, and are now looking forward to see you pushing the code you worked on in the meantime π

The past days have been intense for our infra team. We managed to restore all services except for Hosted Woodpecker CI, which remains offline for the moment. We need a break for now, but hope that the service will become available again soon.On a positive note, we have completed some long-planned changes to our infrastructure, such as migrating the RAID setup of our first machine (btrfs) to the setup chosen for the others, hopefully avoiding similar issues in the future.

We apologize for the long performance degradation today. Finally, we identified all of the 'tricks' that AI crawlers found today. They no longer bypass the anubis proof of work challenges.A novelty for us was that AI crawlers seem to not only crawl URLs that are actually presented to them by our frontend, but they converted the URLs into a format that bypassed our filter rules.By the way, you can track the changes we have been doing viahttps://codeberg.org/Codeberg-Infrastructure/scripted-configuration/compare/51618~1..e4aac

Great news: Today, we have managed to distribute our Forgejo instance across two servers. A main instance still handles most traffic, but requests from #CodebergPages are now handled by another server. Going forward, we'll try to route more read-only traffic there to distribute the load. This is an important milestone, because such a setup was never tested with #Forgejo at this scale. This should improve availability of both Codeberg.org and Codeberg Pages.Details: https://codeberg.org/forgejo/discussions/issues/259

There will be several short interruptions in service during the next 24 hours. Each should not last more than a few minutes. We are performing scheduled hardware maintenance, replacing 1 of 3 physical servers. You can find the current status at https://status.codeberg.eu/status/codeberg

Together with @forgejo, we will have a presence at #FOSDEM 2026! (Thanks @fosdem!)FOSDEM will take place in Brussels between 2026-01-31 and 2026-02-01βit is the largest European conference on free and open-source software and the admission is free (as in beer).Just like last year's FOSDEM, we will be running a stand, exchanging stickers and having delightful conversations. If you find anyone wearing a badge of either project's logo, feel free to say hi. :Dhttps://fosdem.org/2026/news/2025-11-16-accepted-stands/

Hey everyone! Codeberg will go down for about 10 minutes starting 19.00 UTC (20.00 CET) to create database indices which are expected to improve performance. This requires a short interruption of service. We apologize for the inconvenience and short notice.

Our hosted #ForgejoActions now have a `medium` runner available with 10 minutes timeout. Take a look at the announcement: https://codeberg.org/actions/meta/issues/3#issuecomment-8339199Hosted Forgejo Actions is our second hosted CI/CD next to the existing #WoodpeckerCI which already has more generous limits.

Unfortunately, we are still struggling with the changes. We had unexpected issues with our database cluster, because synchronizing the indexes across nodes failed. However, we are approaching the finish line.

Every couple of months, a couple of us come together to write down what we've been working on behind the scenes. The last time we did that was June. There are many exciting things (for us, at least!) that have happened since; you can read all about them in the update that we are sharing with you today:https://blog.codeberg.org/letter-from-codeberg-onwards-and-upwards.html

We are currently fighting against a DDoS attack against our service and our status page. We are analyzing network traffic with the help of our ISP at the moment and let you know once we have updates to share.

Codeberg and Forgejo will have a stand (K5) at FOSDEM 2026 in Brussels. Come by and chat with Codeberg and Forgejo contributors. There'll also be Codeberg and Forgejo stickers. If your Codeberg or Forgejo hosted project has stickers and you're looking for a way to distribute them: Get in touch and we can organise it!
