To go from Echo and The Bunnymen and New Order and The Hoodoo Gurus to all that Marshall stack stuff didn’t seem like an alternative to much. The best thing about was at least it was leftist hard rock instead of the usual devil crap but with all the heroin it was probably really just nihilistic.

I love great rock and roll singles though so “Living after midnight”, “Run to the hills”. I love great stuff. If you haven’t heard “Run to the Hills” truly harrowing. Almost up there with “Bodies” by the Pistols.

I don’t think many people get much from lyrics. I take art for its immediate impact and don’t expect it to change the world. If it makes people happier and therefore kinder to each other for a bit. I suspect that’s the best you can hope.

The working class is construction workers, manual laborers, bus drivers, grocery store workers, waiters (I guess) but Christ have you ever seen the opening scene of Reservoir Dogs? They don’t talk about coal miners.
