Calling environmentally-engaged artists and palaeoartists! I'm running an event on 12 August in London to think about collaborations around art, nature and deep time. If you would like to take part as an artist, please fill in this form by 14 July: https://forms.office.com/e/C862sB6bnTMore information at the following link (and in the below image): http://www.poppalaeo.com/art-and-the-deep-past #art #palaeoart #poppalaeo

There will also be a more open session in the afternoon of the event (15:00-17:00), where a larger group can hear about the participating artists' work, do some art workshopping & help shape wider project plans. If you'd like to attend that part (no artistic skills or training required!), then register here by 21 July: https://forms.office.com/e/PAw9ZbTaPN (this is all building on the "Design a Palaeoart Exhibition" strand at the #TetZooCon palaeoart workshop last year, if anyone attended that!)

I have yet to see a copy (a box is apparently winging its way across the Atlantic right now...), but my new book has been spotted in North America, and the preview is up on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Age-Mammals-Development-Paleontology-INTERSECTIONS/dp/0822947803?asin=0822947803&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1This lets you see the contents, acknowledgements, part of chapter 1 (about engagement with mammal fossils around the world in the years around 1800), and the index. Which of course starts with "Aardvark."

@markwitton I'm doubtful that any platform is going to completely replicate what was built up on twitter over many years, and some degree of fragmentation is pretty inevitable now... Mastodon seems best for developing niche communities which can connect to bigger networks, so would seem a pretty natural fit for the palaeo/palaeoart community (not to mention the name!!)

@markwitton PS! I have a spare Bluesky invite code if anyone wants it(at the moment it mainly seems to be people who were active on twitter talking to each other - but I suppose that's likely to change once it becomes more open)
