Was just thinking I needed one a couple weeks ago, and just now found one at Value Village, an active VGA splitter! This one is a StarTech ST122L which is a 250MHz unit, good enough for basically any resolution I'd throw at it. Surprisingly simple inside, a single 74 series logic chip that is either buffering the sync signals, or doing something with the EDID info, and 6 discrete mosfets and such for the video signal amplification and buffering.

My Fennec VTI boards just came in yesterday and got one all soldered up. It's a 6845 based text/keyboard interface for my Fennec 6800 single board computer.

Did the same trick as last time of solder-mask everywhere but on top of copper to give it that vintage bare traces on colored FR4 look. Though did a much better job of using thicker traces and curving and free-handing them more.

Here's it next to my original Fennec VTI board. Something interesting I noticed when back-lighting them is that the newer board's soldermask is slightly more teal coloured, even though they're both JLCPCB.

Sometimes I wonder if I should move off the @SDF instance, I like to respond to people on toots and such more in realtime, but when my timeline starts with messages posted 2hr ago fairly consistently despite people I follow having posted much more recently. It's hard to get that interaction.I do enjoy SDF, but long periods between updates to most servers really does make that kinda usage less enjoyable.

@publius @SDF I guess it's just that I like having brief conversations with people on a topic, and it acting more like a slow email really changes the dynamic, especially when others don't have the same delay.

Probably deserves a large post, but picked up a Lafayette Grid Dip Meter at the local ham swap meet yesterday. The grid dip meter is an interesting piece of test equipment, but what I want to show you is what's inside it.See that small metal can? It's not some early transistor, it's a 6CW4 newvitron. It's a vacuum tube, showing the incredible miniturization possible.

Sorry got the name confused there when typing it in from my phone. It's a NEWVISTOR not a newvitron (kinda got it mixed up with the newvicon video camera tube from the 80s). http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa0274.htm

@nkizz @foone A neat idea here that could also probably better preserve threading and such could be a Mastodon to NNTP (Newsgroup/usenet) bridge. Most of those older mail clients also supported usenet too.

@siliconundergro @paradroyd I still need to make/install a composite mod for mine, but it is such a neat computer. I did do a couple other mods for it including installing an additional 4kB of RAM for the high res video mode. As well swapped control and shift as a personal preference.

After being content to ignore the the issues of the SDF instance for over a year now, I've decided to make the reluctant decision to move instances. You can now find me at @ChartreuseK@restless.systems (https://social.restless.systems/@ChartreuseK)The move should automatically move follows shortly, but if you find yourself not seeing my posts in your timeline this week, please follow again at the link above.(I haven't hit the move button just yet as SDF can't see my new account yet, sooon....)

@twylo It is, it started at 4hr yesterday and has been gradually getting longer.
