We went for a walk in the rain. It came on stronger and we were full face into it. On the way back the squall helped us along. We were out on it for 50 minutes. Invigorating and bracing. As we got back to the car a blue sky parted the clouds. It wasn’t the last of the rain for the day. Springtime on Skye. And yes, there was a rainbow. #spring #walking #rain #drama

“Eilean Donan (Scottish Gaelic: Eilean Donnain) is a small tidal island situated at the confluence of three sea lochs (Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh) in the western Highlands of Scotland, about 1 kilometre (5⁄8 mi) from the village of Dornie. It is connected to the mainland by a footbridge that was installed early in the 20th century and is dominated by a picturesque castle that frequently appears in photographs, film and television.”Stopped this morning to take this:#reconstruction

“The far Cuillins are pullin' me away,
As take I wi' my crummack to the road.
The far Cuillins are puttin' love on me,
As step I wi' the sunlight for my load.”You know when you get an ear worm? I don’t know if it’s the same thing exactly but I am frequently stirred to song when I see the Cuillins. I posted this song before. I won’t do it again on case you too get infected. It does have a great walking rhythm. I sing it to the dog as we head to the beach…#Cuillins #Skye #wanderlust

Snow fell on the Cuillins only last week. They looked like a Toblerone carton. Now the snow is nearly gone. It’s the time for new growth. Greenery has returned to the land. Springtime is really here. Joy Abounds! This is the view from Roag. #landscape #isleofskye #springtime #sealoch #Cuillins

@Krisss The scene is actually Sloane Square in London. I recognise the view from its atmosphere and the decorated trees as well as the twin towers on the façade of Holy Trinity Church on Sloane Street. I hope you don't mind my sharing but I thought you'd like to know. Regards, Charles

“The Skye Bridge (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid an Eilein Sgitheanaich) is a road bridge over Loch Alsh, Scotland, connecting the Isle of Skye to the island of Eilean Bàn. The name is also used for the whole Skye Crossing, which further connects Eilean Bàn to the mainland across the Carrich Viaduct. The crossing forms part of the A87.”This was my view from the bridge as I passed over it last evening on my way home. #skye #bridge #sunsetsky #colour #spectrum

“Yet, if you enter the woods
 Of a summer evening late,
When the night-air cools on the trout-ringed pools
Where the otter whistles his mate,
(They fear not men in the woods,
Because they see so few.)
You will hear the beat of a horse’s feet,
And the swish of a skirt in the dew,
Steadily cantering through
 The misty solitudes ,
As though they perfectly knew
The old lost road through the woods.
But there is no road through the woods.”From R. Kipling’s ‘The Way through the Woods’#air

A selection of wild flowers from the garden in a vase designed by Jaime Hayon. Reminds me of one of Elizabeth Blackadder’s paintings. Except not so clearly composed. They both have a linear quality. It’s in the lobby. It’s a welcome for visitors. The poem in the ALT text is ‘The Art of Listening’ By Veronica Aaronson#wildflowers #scotland

What a day. The greenness is still fresh as summer hereabouts comes with great whooshes and sudden arrivings. It can be cold at night and in the morning but when the clear, clean air is pierced with sunlight it is the most glorious feeling. Wild flowers don’t show off here. They play a secondary rôle. They hide in the grass and heather; then they wave at us with bursts of colour like tiny flags on a march or a demonstration in favour of joy. #summer #day #Scotland #isleofskye

Dame Elizabeth Violet Blackadder, Mrs Houston, DBE, RA, RSA (1931 – 2021) was a Scottish painter and printmaker. She was the first woman to be elected to both the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy.Blackadder worked in a variety of media such as oil paints, watercolour, drawing, and printmaking. In her still life paintings and drawings, she considered space between objects carefully. Her later work contains mainly her cats and flowers with extreme detail. #art #flowers #Scottish

Loch Coruisk (in Scottish Gaelic, Coire Uisg, the "Cauldron of Waters") is an inland fresh-water loch, lying at the foot of the Black Cuillin in the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands. The northern end of the loch is ringed by the Black Cuillin, often wreathed in cloud. From the southern end the Scavaig River, only a few hundred yards long, discharges into a sea loch, Loch Scavaig. The loch is nearly 2 miles (3 kilometres) long and c. 400 yards (370 metres) wide. #Cuillins #isleofskye

       "Sheep can safely graze
where a good shepherd watches over them.

Where rulers are ruling well,
we may feel peace and rest
and what makes countries happy.""Sheep' may safely graze" is a soprano aria by J S Bach to words by S Franck. The piece was written in 1713 and is part of the cantata , 'Only the lively hunt pleases me', aka the Hunting Cantata.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeFqHXdXQyw#

The Cuillins from the hill above Dunvegan. This is the view I take in when I want to remind myself of my residence. Not that I forget but it hasn’t always been possible to take in a wider view of the place I’ve called home. Can you go somewhere to take in your home? #isleofskye #september

William George Gillies (1898–1973)Scottish painter and art teacher. For most of his life he was associated with Edinburgh College of Art. He graduated there in 1924, and after two years studying with André Lhote in Paris, he returned as a teacher; he stayed until his retirement in 1966, serving as Head of Painting, 1946–60, and Principal, 1960–6. I am a great fan of all his work. #landscape #hillside #trees #colour

The Old Man of Storr on the Trotternish Ridge is probably the most famous walk on the Isle of Skye. The Old Man (Bodach an Stòr in Gaelic), is a 55-metre-high pinnacle of basalt rock which is all that remains of a 2,800-million-year-old volcanic plug.We took the opportunity to do this walk early(ish) this morning. Brodie came with and although on the lead the whole time as there were sheep about, his behaviour was exemplary. #oldmanofstorr #trotternish #isleofskye #scotland #walking

The phrase "four seasons in one day" refers to a day where the weather rapidly changes, mimicking the characteristics of all four seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) in a single day. This typically involves experiencing a mix of warm sunshine, rain, strong winds, and perhaps even a touch of cold or even hail, all within a few hours of each other. Which is why you always need to dress in layers and pack a good raincoat or jacket#ScottishWeather #isleofskyescotland #rain #sun #summer

This is a view taken from the roadside on my way home from Portree. I do this journey at least twice a week. It never fails to thrill me. It’s a view looking towards the coast of Minginish from a point high above the main road between Sligachan and Dunvegan near Struan. We do this drive of necessity as we need to collect laundry and food several times a week. Portree is the nearest supermarket. This is the shortest route...#isleofskyescotland #MistyIsle #view #Minginish #scenic
