@vernthepleb The Fediverse, of which the Mastodon software is a part and the most well known, alongside many other software platforms. Short for "federation" which is what we call all these instances cooperating together.

@PublicLewdness Yep, and we can block you freely. Many of my follows are in instances that have blocked your instance entirely. You can say whatever you want, but eventually you're saying it in a vacuum and nobody is listening.

@vernthepleb I'm not sure what you mean. A federation is "an organization or group within which smaller divisions have some degree of internal autonomy" which is exactly what the Fediverse is... a bunch of instances that interoperate, but all run under their own rules. (Which is basically what email is.)Fediverse is shorthand for "federation of servers based on the activitypub protocols", and I'll grant my use of "Fedi" was rather unclear to new people and a mistake on my part.

I don't like jumping on the AI bandwagons, but #chatGPT is great for writing RPG character and adventure ideas. Nothing award-winning, but solid enough to get my own ideas flowing.

So I bought a home water distiller. Kind of mixed reasons... our water is not chlorinated and it grows weird stuff pretty fast, which the cat water fountain and the new hydroponic toy don't like. Maybe it'll taste better than just filtering. And maybe I can produce enough for the humidifier.What surprises me is how much better it tastes. It's not huge, but I find I can drink a lot more of it before wanting to switch back to soda.You should see the gunk at the bottom of the boiling chamber.

It's amazing how many YouTube woodworkers don't seem to actually build anything. They just talk about tips and tools. And those that do build things are showing quick cheap things that you can sell for maximum profit, so their focus isn't on fine woodworking, it's on the side hustle. That is, when they bother to build and don't just go through Wayfair's catalog and suggest that you might build this and that for a tenth the price and sell for half.
