@stunt_bird I don't want to try and pin down a date, but '08 2: This Time it's Personal seems all but certain. And I wouldn't be surprised if the final straw comes out of China.

@stunt_bird I keep trying to come up with flaws and all of them also apply to the current system, so what the hell, I'd say it's worth a shot.

@fribbledom if they're actually doing Roman numerals, yeah. They might just be emulating the four upright lines with a horizontal stroke way of tallying by 5s. But realistically they're just like "our target audience definitely doesn't know what Roman numerals are, but they can count. Probably."

@Mosie really good poutine is great but my experience is that most poutine is not very good. For my Canadian dollars, mediocre donairs are a whole lot better than mediocre poutine and easier to find to boot, making them the superior Canadian artery clogger.

@Mosie I've only ever driven through Northern Ontario, so I definitely can't help there - but in like 20 years I've had really great poutine in exactly one place, a now-burned down cheap diner in southern Alberta run by a family from Québec.Donairs are way easier though. Spit-roasted meat wrapped in pita with veg and sauce (which in Canada is traditionally a sweet yogurt sauce but most places have a more savoury variant of tzatziki too). Even just okay ones are as good as any fasr food burger.

@Mosie I feel like there's something about the fries and gravy, even leaving aside the cheese selection, that your typical Anglo restaurant or diner is almost always gonna fuck up. You have to want to make good poutine, not just okay cheesy gravy fries.

@mardiroos I'm a big old genealogy nerd, and I have a few family members who've suggested taking one of the commercial tests and it's really hard to get them to understand why I have zero interest in letting a private, for-profit company have access to a single strand of DNA.

@OhMyGodMyKnees why not have both pointlessly imposing concrete monoliths that are also sterile and nearly lifeless?

@OhMyGodMyKnees Canada has a "dual-intent" work/study visas that can be a path to permanent residency if you work at least one year full-time equivalent in a sufficiently "skilled" career in Canada in the three years after completing your studies and that's probably the most straight-forward approach. There are others, though, depending on your current work experience and how willing you are to learn French.

@OhMyGodMyKnees Oh, and because I ran out of space, this doesn't have to be a bachelor's degree. The trades and jobs requiring associates degrees generally count!
