       @kingsley With each episode of egregious misbehavior by #police, I again wonder whether it would at all help if police #academies were a state-level entity (one per state), accredited and monitored by higher education, staffed by quality faculty, unmilitarized (no barracks), and had a rigorous 4 or 5 year curriculum that included social sciences. And local police departments could hire only such graduates. The graduates wouldn't have student debt, because the State paid their way.

       @KimPerales #NorfolkSouthern has been very profitable. Folks in #EastPalestine deserve handsome compensation. The company needs to undergo a thorough reckoning though: an investigation into what all contributed to this incident, followed by regulatory action and reforms like the labor contract negotiations were asking for.

       @Krisss I don't know where this represents, but it kind of makes me want to visit #Kyoto in the Spring. Almond trees here in the southern Sacramento Valley are beginning to bloom. It's lovely.

       @futurebird @ana Well for chronic pain nothing beats opiates. Prescribed by an MD of course coupled with monitoring. But they definitely have their down sides. Slowed gut motility/constipation, tolerance/dependency (not really an issue for terminal patients), and too much stops one's breathing.

       @clive A guy I used to know grew up on a farm in Nebraska. His dad was thrifty: used the pickup truck only for chores on the farm or the occasional trek to town for bulky supplies. For all other non-farm errands or trips, he drove an old Corvair, because it got better gas mileage. He also didn't raise farm animals: once the soybean/corn/wheat crop was in, he would batten down the farm and spend the winter in a bungalow he owned in Orange County, California.  Kind of an early adopter of snowbird.
