@futurebird you're a bit more generous than me. My rule of thumb whenever someone says "they should teach REAL knowledge like investment/taxes/business in school" is that it's always people who wouldn't have paid attention anyway.I'm comfortable being mean because I didn't pay attention in school either, but then I'm not one of those business types who have the chip on their shoulder validated by Robert Kiyosaki either (I'm a completely separate type of prick)

If you're hearing people saying that, the message is that hat people are comfortable sharing silly first impressions with you.I have resting bitch face, my best friend is a man of few words and people assume we're pricks until they know better. Play the cards you're dealt, if you're making friends you're doing fine.Words like that hurt when you're vulnerable, but flipped around, you can be yourself, be intimidating and still make friends. This is probably a formalised kind.Remember you're reading a translation.Poetry is pretty important in ancient texts as mnemonic and structure. For example, Chinese classics were largely written without punctuation in contexts where that could change meaning. Scholars were expected to know where to add marks, and poetic rhythm was a major aid.

@futurebird eh, I just think it's cool. Of all the things that can happen during your schooling, a mock papal conclave is harmless fun that will hopefully lead to a few positive memories.Also these are kids - while adults in comments section are fretting about religion and brainwashing, those kids were absolutely laughing and cracking catholic priest jokes far more offensive than we'd make, before being forced to look serious for exactly the length of a photo under the teacher's death stare.

@futurebird Two key groups on the right have been tilling the fields and sowing seeds for 40 years - hardcore evangelicals have been building political power, population, and a separate education system. Billionaires have been accumulating resources, eroding checks and capturing institutions. The wave they're riding has been building for a long time.We need philosophies of education, media and culture to prepare a renaissance 20 years from now, as well as fighting today's battles.

If I say 'my magic water increases IQ by 25 points', I can be sued for making a false claim.If I say 'my water will make you a thousand times smarter', I can't be sued because the claim is hyperbolic and not grounded in fact. Never mind that the underlying logic is 'it's okay to cheat dumb people', it's established law. Yet numbers lend authority, so advertisers are traditionally cautious to keep any numbers ridiculous.
