@futurebird @geoffduncan @moira I used to hear that City Island (Bronx) was New England by New Yorkers even back in the day when the landfill near the bridge was active and very aromatic. It was probably due to the small town feel and the large number of small boats.

@futurebird Before Ikea invaded the US, there used to be local bookshelf builders in some college towns. It was even possible to buy rattan bookshelves from the Philippines at one time from Cost Plus. Ikea particleboard bookshelves can collapse under book packing stress over time, whereas solid wood will bend if the the books are exceptionally heavy and the bookshelf is wide and not supported in the middle.
