@ThomasWic great insight, thank you. A good friend of mine has been subtly red-pilling anti-Trump friends with this reasoning: "we have for too long been a country with many state, local, ethnic, clan, religious, baseball-team tribes. Trump has elevated the tribe level to up to the nation itself. Under Trump, we are all one tribe: American. Keep your interests, foods, teams, religion, etc., but unite under the Team America flag." That seemed very persuasive to me.

I may be "thinking too small", but all I can come up with is that the "business rules" in Congress you suggest may have to do with quorum and the way the Covid-induced electoral vote procedure went.
