@amolith I agree. There are many good language, any of which are acceptable: C, Rust, Assembly, etcThere are also many affronts to nature that people insist are programming language that are, in fact, compilable bit rot: C++, Java, Scripty Java, etcTherefore, promoting one language over the others must be cringe, but condemning a language under others must be based.

Saying you don't need to know math to do programming is like saying you don't need to know how to read in order to write.Technically true, but it makes it way easier.

@ken_fallon And in writing, it is the ability to write without error that is important. A person does not need to be able to read to recognize that glyphs are correct.Imagine, for instance, that someone knew how to speak Chinese, but was taught how to write in English. They never learned to speak English and were merely taught how to write it. As far as they knew, they were writing Chinese and all those little symbols were some queer quirk of the act of writing. They would be able to write flawlessly, if properly taught. But if you can read it in it's native language, and programming and logic are native to mathematics, than you understand each symbol more completely and can write not only with accuracy, but with eloquence.

So, apparently, Kate, y'know the Mousepad-style basic text editor, of KDE, has everything to be used as a Rust IDE included out of the box.It is things like this that really made me wish I didn't have problems with KDE every time I've used it.

@urusan I don't know if that is correct. I assume Kate, like most KDE apps, relies on the KIO subsystem to function properly. So, I can run Kate without running KDE, but I'm pretty sure I'd still have to have KDE installed.I could be wrong though, this is just my understanding from reading a lot of KDE source code and basically no other research.

@Seirdy I hate to say it, but I think the word is "synergy." You are looking to optimize the interplay between user experience and standard compliance in an ad-hoc way that makes both benefit more than focusing on either one individually.Specifically by giving users a more powerful experience while being part of a LEAN and flexible infrastructure.Take your SEO example. Overfitting for Google will reduce the user experience for the plurality of people that don't use Google and will make your site more prone to failure by relying on one centralized mode of distribution. If you practice synergy, though, or maybe more specifically user/environment synergy, you would optimize for the concept of a search engine and provide better overall experience for all search engine users while also making your code more portable and easily read by Google.Just my 2¢

@straw @Seirdy I thought about this, but, at least in my limited experience, the word "neutral" seems to give people a negative connotation.

@oklomsy I don't know if there is a way to do this cleanly, but could you replace all non-text media with a link to it on tumblr's servers? It would make it less truely federated, but it also would side step some moderation problems as well.
