@futurebird I’ve thought about this a lot. I was a shy, sensitive child. A lot of issues in my life stemmed from trying to “man up” and it took me until almost 40 to start working through a lot of that.My dad as a “man’s man.” Born on a farm, former marine, construction worker from a family of carpenters. Ran his own business, was well respected. Physically strong from a life of manual labor. Thing is, he *never* pushed me toward any of that. He encouraged me to learn, go to school, and overall be myself. I mean he wasn’t perfect, but he was a great dad. I mainly learned to cook from him, and he taught me to sew buttons and such (which he learned in the Marines lol).And I *still* fell into the “be a man” trap. The force of that is so powerful and hard to avoid.

@futurebird So weird. I really dislike this type of security theater.I live near a military base, and you have to show your ID to get on base. Why? I don't know. Rentacop with an empty holster looks at it, then waves you through. If you have a DOD sticker on your car they barely look at you. BTW this is Fort Stewart I'm talking about, the exact one that had the recent shooting by a soldier who brought his personal firearm on base and, one assumes, had the proper ID and DOD sticker on his car

@futurebird @paulc @roytoo That’s what I’ve been trying to tell people. If you have stuff to give, do it. But the folks at the food bank can probably stretch you money further than you can. Not “it’s bad “ but “cool, but there’s a better way,” I do think for some (I’m thinking of my kids, for example) giving food items is easier to grasp. And it helps point them toward “community cares for community “

@futurebird @paulc @roytoo that’s a great idea. I’ve put out the word in our neighborhood FB group that folks will help. We’ll see if anyone takes us up As an aside, I’m pissed that I was totally off FB and other big tech social media until this came up. It’s totally inconsequential but I’m still mad about it lol
