A screenshot of a post that was screenshotted and posted to Tumblr. Here is a summary, as I can't do the full text in a post and I can't do long ALTs on my phone:A mother relates a story about her ex-husband's parents being told that her daughter is gay and her partner is trans. The ex explains. The grandparents are perfectly accepting, using correct pronouns and everything. Then the day before Christmas the mother gets an email saying that the grandmother can't accept their "lifestyle choice" and Christmas was ruined. Turns out she's upset her grandkids are vegetarians. She had prepared for a big meat-filled meal. She is very concerned about their protein intake.

@Tattie Yeah. I am no longer visibly trans but I like to dress gender non conforming, appearing in a beard and a skirt in public, or looking like a guy in obvious makeup, and now I wear a large amount of queer flag pins on my bag which includes a trans flag.It may be different in the UK but where I am a lot of people don't even recognize the trans flag or any queer flag beyond the rainbow one, or the progress pride flag. Which has the trans colours on it! But many folks still don't recognize the trans flag.If I get harassed it's always been for looking gender non conforming, and I have rarely been harassed, very very rarely. A few more times I have received or overheard rude comments about myself for presenting as I do.But the vast, vast, vast majority of people just let me be. And others genuinely appreciate how I dress or my pins. I get compliments on my skirt or hat, I get compliments on my pins, and that is a huge part of why I wear the pins at all. Cis folks should try pins.

@maggiejk I'm aro, and I dont think you can culturally appropriate a queer identity, personally. If you feel a label fits you in some way you're welcome to use it, there is much variety in experiences of queer people and I believe in inclusivity and not gatekeeping. You don't have to label yourself either if you don't want to or aren't ready or feel wrong about it. You can also change your labels any time you want to. It's all available to you if you want it. 💜💚I can't tell you who you are but I will say I have met aspec folks with experiences similar to yours.

@maggiejk Let me correct myself: some queer identities are specific to a culture, may be tied exclusively to an ethnicity or race, and (for example) it would be inappropriate for someone like me with no indigenous North American hertage to claim an identity like 2-spirit. So in that way one could culturally appropriate a queer identity, though I'm not sure if that term is applicable in this context. But none of that applies to you with ace & aro. 💜💚 Also you probably know all this already, I just saw the glaring error in my post and had to say this because it's important.

@futurebird I'm technically still in my 30s but I have a decent amount of sex, not a lot in person but my partners are all long distance. I occasionally hook up with closer to me in space friends, and I might hook up with newer partners in the near future.I never wanted to get married. It's one of the things that caused me to realise I'm aromantic. If I did ever get married it would be to help out a dear friend and we'd work out something beneficial to us both, and I wouldn't want a big ceremony or anything.I'm certainly not lonely. I don't leave my house a lot but I've been making friends on the Internet since 1999, and I do have local friends and social things I see and attend as well. Some of the social things are even free. And with in person friends we rarely go out to spend money. There are things I miss about being in person with long distance friends but I try to see them in person when I can and we find many things to do together.
