@liaizon this is essentially just moving the problem from twitter to mastodon.

@liaizon doesn't change the fact that malicious interests will come with the people. the bigger mastodon becomes, the harder it will be to avoid them.

@liaizon nope. just made my account. and my main concern is how mastodon can essentially be destroyed by this since there aren't resources to maintain a huge staff of counter-measure operators like twitter and facebook does (and still fail to manage).

@stephanieanne owned by facebook. mines data. and has several vulnerabilities, such as the recent mp4 exploit letting you launch code on the receivers device.

@hoergen agreed. it shouldn’t be spoken of as an alternative. it’s not like anyone speaks of twitter as an alternative to mastodon. alternative indicates optional but humans are only motivated/interested in the main social hub, so calling it an alternative is a disservice and a failure from a psychological approach.i wouldn’t say future. i‘d say it’s the new, next wave, next gen, or next step in social networking. the more the fediverse grows (in modules), the better it becomes

@clacke @hoergen “future of” is such as an overused marketing term hoping to claim market share with competitors tho :P

@yogthos @isagalaev you forget entertainment is one of the few things already freely available, no not digital piracy; libraries ;) imagine if someone proposed libraries today; there would be a heart attack across the entire gorram government. fucking moderates and fascists the lot of them. somehow they and everyone else seem to have forgotten about libraries though. which is good, i guess. keeps them safe. but not used as much as they could be.

@thenewoil funny. microsoft playing dirty once again. inconveniencing people to try and encourage them to stick with hotmail and outlook and other nonsense. the irony being this is exactly why we need to drop american corporations... i hope people realize this, heck, i hope governments outright ban this kind of activity. if they want to compete on the european markets, they're free to do so, if they play by our rules. good luck standing a chance against freedom of choice lol.

@EU_Commission Great! Will this law force BankID in Sweden to support more mobile platforms than iOS and Android? Because currently the entire country is locked into using BankID for their daily ID needs, and the company responsible for BankID pulled their open support a few years back (when Ubuntu Touch was released), making it impossible for companies other than Apple and Google to enter the Swedish mobile market. They are in effect enforcing the current duopoly.

@stux the goal is probably more insidious than that. they want to radicalize their voting base. they can use it regardless of success as an argument to support rightwingers underdog bs or such, and trash the left in multiple ways.

@EU_Commission it would be fun to know how many of these celebratory greetings actually mean christmas and not a local celebration like yuletide that coincides with christmas for historical reasons!

Been playing #TheSecretOfMonkeyIsland with my oldest kid and we're loving it. I realize I haven't actually re-played the series since the special edition came out in 2009 (and of course, each new game upon release). These games defined my childhood (together with #ALinktothePast and #Quake). So here's for a new generation embracing the magic of #MonkeyIsland! Thanks @grumpygamer! Not all heroes wear capes 😁

@GlitchGhost @grumpygamer i've been chasing that feeling from ALttP all these years but nothing ever really recaptured it. as far as rpgs go, nothing beats good old MUDs, well, bar the original guild wars. been playing the reforged release quite a bit lately!
