If you have/are taking care of a kid, and it starts crying, it will get attention VERY QUICKLY to fix whatever the issue is. The crying is distracting. Human instinct drives you to try to help the child. The crying pulls on your attention more and more until you feel you have no other choice but provide the child with attention and fix the issue. Is it annoying? Sometimes, yes. Can it ensure the child is well cared for? Also yes. Provided you have patience.

I'v been using more FOSS apps on my phone lately, to the point I have more of them than Google apps. Soon, the transition will be complete!Unfortunately, it'll be delayed since with the loss of my NextCloud, I no longer have a CalDAV instance to work with. Any suggestions for some standalone CalDAV solution I can use?

@nergal I haven't had Google Lens installed in a long while. Not really useful to me so it got deleted. Don't know of any good alternatives.

@nergal I didn't see either of those in the repos for my distro (unless they are available as a snap or flatpak. Only checked apt). I did find calypso and one other tho.

Anybody know how well eGPUs work on Linux? Looking at getting a Framework in the future and last I heard it had unofficial Thunderbolt support.

I keep having Pipewire crashing on me if I mess with Audio settings too much. The process keeps running, but I have to do `systemctl --user restart pipewire*` to get my audio back. Any ideas?

@wolf480pl @decivex @fribbledom I'm coming up on 3 years of maintaining a moderately sized (huge for the stuff I write, and only growing) code base, and have been enjoying Python. It's my first choice whenever I need to start a new project, and most of my projects are written in it.It's not perfect, but since most of the things I write mostly use libs from the Python Standard Library, and I target Linux almost exclusively, I have very few issues.

@wolf480pl @decivex @fribbledom Nope. I've been using static type checking a little more lately but it's been minimal. You can check out all my code at the links below, so you can see the type of stuff I make and why this isn't a huge issue for me. I will gladly acknowledge that my way of doing things does not apply to everyone. Some languages are better for other situations or other people. I'm debating on making a custom Raspberry Pi CM4 carrier board. Anyone know where/how I can design one? Either by myself or for dirt cheap. The easier this is to do, the better.

@phoenix Well I do Yuzu but yeah I get your point. Same thing.Only issue is, do I want to wait that long to get one?

@phoenix I mean that might also be an option. No matter what I choose there will some amount of waiting involved (shipping times). And it may be in a few months I get bored of Switch games and think this whole issue was silly since I can just get a Steam Deck and play just about anything.

@OpenComputeDesign Well I think that would probably be close to 2000 watts. But that's not including displays, peripherals and the like. Just like a 3090 and a properly cooled 12900KS

Got a dirt cheap Wii the other day. Already jailbroke it so I can rip some games. Wonder how well Linux would run on this thing?
