@freemo why do you need to justify anything? Just do it!

@freemo @keyeoh GHC 9.6 should have a native JS and WASM backend, if you’re into that sort of thing. I have to say I disagree on the lack of both decent libraries and finding developers. I’ve been using Haskell professionally for nearly a year now and rarely find either hard to come by.

Been here a few days, so I guess it’s time for an #introduction postI’m Alex, better know as Axman6 pretty much everywhere you can think of - IRC (libra.chat#haskell etc.), 🦤 site, probably LinkedIn and others too.As far as jobs and hobbies are concerned, I’ve been a professional #Haskell developer for nearly a decade, with various roles in finance and #HFT (despite not really having much of an interest in finance…), in the public sector where I worked on much of the #RenewableEnergy parts of https://nationalmap.gov.au at #NICTA & #CSIRO, writing backend services in Haskell, doing lots of #geospatial data processing, #SQL, #DevOps and much more. I’m currently writing #Daml, a dialect of Haskell, for a large financial system but also #LookingForWork - if you’re in need of an experienced remote Haskell dev who loves to make things go fast, I’d love to have a chat. I’m also doing my Masters in #cybersecurity at #UNSW - oh how I wish there was more overlap between the #cyber and #functional programming worlds… does it all end with #seL4? Let me know!I’ve got a strong interest in #cryptography, #integrity, as well as #hacking things to see how they work, and love a good #CTF.On the more personal side of things, I’m based in #Canberra, #australia. As you can see from my profile pic, I’m also a volunteer in the State Emergency Service - I guess you could say I like pin coladas, and talking walks in the rain… in a storm… on your roof… with a chainsaw⛈️

@keyeoh @freemo Well! Then you just get the pleasure of being the one to write it! Someone had to write the others, time to be the changes you wish to see in the world 😁

@freemo @keyeoh well, hit my up next time there’s something missing, I’m always up for a #Haskell challenge

@mastodonusercount yeeehaaawww, glitches (heh) and floods like this remind me of the fun days of #IRC when all the larger channels on Freenode (RIP) would get spammed with amazingly racist stuff.

@sneak Not super surprising, IIRC the recent Apple monitors have very similar hardware to an iPhone, there’s a whole A13 Bionic CPU in there.

@briankrebs @doessec How does GrapheneOS mitigate the risks from vulnerable firmware? Do they have agreements with the hardware vendors to get early/rapid access to fixes? Or do they have top wait until after an Android update to even get access to those fixes?

@GrapheneOS @briankrebs @doessec Thanks for the comprehensive answer, it sounds like a good position to be in, but not as good as it could be. I’m glad there’s a good alternative for Android users out there; keep up the awesome work.

@freemo @jasonetheridge If you can come up with an electoral system where that actually happens, let me know. Compulsory voting makes Australia's electoral system one of the most robust of any country, it is very hard to argue that the results are at all unrepresentative, and trying to apply some nebulous bar to who should be able to vote is fundamentally undemocratic.Since you are claiming that Australia doesn't have a two party system, I'll have to assume you're very uneducated on this issue - we essentially do have a two party system, but not to the grotesque extent the US does. What's more, we also use significantly more fair electoral systems than the shockingly awful first past the post, which is one of the simplest of all systems to game and make undemocratic (see the US's who history for evidence of this). Our senate system in particular is particularly robust, with its optional preferential vote, where every person's vote will eventually end up going to their most preferred candidate (with the possibility that if they pick a particularly popular candidate, the excess votes will contribute to another less preferential candidate). It's extremely hard to come up with a reasonable argument for Australia not having one of the strongest electoral systems around, without appealing to nonsense like 'muh freedoms' or 'but the people are too dumb'.

@jasonetheridge @freemo No worries, you hit a nerve of mine, as someone with a strong interest in election integrity. I’m very unhappy with the results of this latest referendum, but I do at least know it represents the view of the people of the country (even if that view was stoked by astoundingly stupid misinformation, but that’s a whole other problem to tackle).
