The only way to test our hypothesis that changing societal expectations about the future can help change the future, is to do it. If anyone would like to help us with that test, we would be delighted. Thank you to everyone who has boosted our toots. Please feel free to share the Aspen Proposal on other social media, in your local newspaper and around your kitchen tables and campfires. http://www.aspenproposal.org#sustainability #Nature #politics #economics #ClimateChange #biodiversity

The Aspen Proposal is a goal that we think is plausible, achievable and pretty nifty. But to get from here to there, we need to squeeze through the bottleneck of this century. It’s going to be complicated. Not everything we try will work. We will disagree over details. Lots of innovation, determination and compassion will be needed. But also, a sense of humour. http://www.aspenproposal.org#sustainability #ClimateChange #biodiversity #Nature #economics #socialjustice

The Aspen Proposal is focused on our destination.Agreeing on where we need to go makes it much more likely we will arrive there. But that doesn’t mean it will be easy. There will be lots of challenges and roadblocks to overcome along the way.Cultural change, new economics and new technologies will all be part of the journey.http://www.aspenproposal.org#sustainability #ClimateChange #economics #Nature #politics #Justice #biodiversity

@Pampa Seems a bit crazy, doesn't it. Part of the reason is revealed by your comment "for good or ill". Some of the folks in our small group have been activists at the local level for over 35 years. We understand the importance of taking immediate action on a variety of issues. But in this age of social media and cultural polarization, if that is all we do, it is not clear that we can hold things together and get where we need to go. Asking people to step back and think about the long term may open some minds. Especially if it is done in a non-threatening manner, with a long time frame and few assumptions about details. We believe there are some basic elements that any civilization will require to be sustainable. If we can get people to see that, it will shift the debate, reduce the polarization and allow some real progress. That, at least, is our hypothesis and we are willing to spend the next 10-20 years putting it to the test.

There are a number of websites on the net that allow us to explore the tree of life and the interconnections between species. While the Evogeneao site is not the most detailed or comprehensive, it is kind of cool how it describes us all as cousins. http://www.evogeneao.com/en/explore/tree-of-life-explorer#biodiversity #spirituality #economics #Nature #sustainability

It has been 164 years since the publication of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” and we still haven’t figured out how to adapt our systems of ethics to properly consider all life as part of our extended family.Perhaps we should do a bit more work on that, before we even think about building sentient machines?http://www.aspenproposal.org#ethics #AI #sustainability #Nature #biodiversity #spirituality #politics

@TropaeolumMajusSnail Yes, it is immensely frustrating. But things are changing, the paradigm is shifting. We started the Aspen Proposal project to help that process along.

@stux The best case scenario that I have heard for self-driving cars pairs them with the sharing economy and largely eliminates car ownership. Reduces the number of vehicles by 90%, eliminates most parking lots and garages but still maintains a high level of convenience.
