       @CyReVolt The behaviour is not that new though. People were stopping at the headline before paywalls were a thing.As far as I'm aware it's been a known problem in print media before the internet in fact.Paywalls of course make it harder to go "no, that's not what they're saying".

       @wolf480pl @xnx38h @fribbledom Also some file formats, such as epub, use/allow JavaScript "b/c reasons".So those file formats would become safer as well.

       @wizard Bunch of people insisting it's "earl" so I suggest a compromise:"you're'll'n'earl"

       @fribbledom "Manfusing" makes me think of more "how Emrakul makes human centipedes".(For anyone confused, this is a Magic the Gathering joke / reference.)

       @codesections I'm guessing because the algorithms being put to use the most, and which are sold and marketed as AI, are ill-suited to do much of anything let alone the highly subjective stuff people in charge want them to do.

       @codewiz Based on the comments this is apparently regional at least.And might be related to Tokyo apparently being forced to send people to quarantine themselves either in hospitals or hotels (in both cases the city has to foot the bill) instead of in their own homes. So there's an incentive for them to _not_ get people tested.

       @Clifford @barrett I got the original iPhone SE, but after Apple had discontinued it and the price dropped to somewhere acceptable for me.And the reason why I got it because it was the only one small enough for me to use single-handed without my thumb starting to hurt.(Live in Finland, refuse to use Amazon, so Unihertz et al. are either expensive or hard to source.)

       @emilis @promethea @fribbledom Obsessing over power generation to the cost of efficiency is not going to get us to that point either because climate change is too far gone now.The only power plants which could possibly catch up with the blown up waste are nuclear but they are way too slow to build.

       @emilis @promethea @fribbledom Also it's not like innovation doesn't happen when you have to be frugal.In fact even for the "innovation through excess" it would be helpful if the common behaviour was towards low power consumption. Because then you would need less production to hit the necessary unused capacity for whatever hypothesis they need to test.

       @emilis @promethea So:a) In the past jumps in power production have preceded "innovation" either because before that there was a serious bottleneck of needed power. Right now there is none, except for stuff which we have _no_ hope of powering with current or incoming tech.(At least none I've heard of.)Even _if_ we went hogwild building the plants.b) Exactly what jump of energy production allowed for mobile phones? Or smartphones? It was energy _storage_ and _efficiency_ which enabled those.

       @emilis Because I'm not the one who has been constantly assuming we can only do one of efficiency or production, mate.

       @jaxter184 @fribbledom Supposedly the reason is b/c GNU is the "actually important part" but IMO it's really because the people who started to insist it should be "GNU/Linux" were the people working on the GNU stuff and felt their work was more important than anybody else's.

       @jaxter184 @fribbledom Yeah, it's impossible to tell for sure. And at the very least it's nitpicky, because who says "GApps+Android" without it being important to the discussion at hand? And there aren't many who would insist on a specific formatting of "X+Y" or "X/Y" for the two parts without getting eyerolls in response.

       @fribbledom Ultra-widescreen, and to a lesser degree regular widescreen, are marketing tricks. The further you move from 1:1 the less surface area you get for the corner-to-corner measurement. Meaning the wider the ratio the bigger "size" they can promise compared to the actual size of the panel.That said: 1:1 is an impractical ratio as is the 5:4 ratio non-widescreen LCD monitors used. (There were no 4:3 LCDs. Some claimed it, but were actually 5:4.)

       @fribbledom I think I should clarify though:I do think 16:9 and 2:1 / 18:9 ratios have their uses and it's perfectly fine for people to prefer either of them over lower ratios.I just think their push by manufacturers is mostly driven by marketing instead of any sort of practical benefits to the end users.

       @rysiek I always have to wonder about the logic of "let's make sure everybody from a country only have access to their country's propaganda, that'll teach their dictator!"

       @esi @veer66 Based on what I've heard you can use Aeropress filters, but but I've cut out of regular filters. I've used the grounds basket of my moka pot as a guideline for size, cutting it a bit wider. At least in a Bialetti you don't need to be all that exact.I do wet them though, since it helps them stay still.

       @tante To all the people wondering about DuckDuckGo:It relies on Bing for most of its search results. Unless DuckDuckGo can reliably filter out the BS Injector's nonsense its results are going to go down with Bing.And Startpage apparently relies on Google, so it's the same thing there.
