@rs1linuxtoolsMy two cents : Proton-GE for the games that crash at cinematics, it usually solves it.No hassle : buy them on steam, try, doesn't work -> refound.Ready to tinker ? GoG and Lutris work amazingly well.

Do someone know of a good __very basic__ git tutorial for absolute beginners ?I am looking for something that is ideally designed to just give a new apprentice some clue how to use it very basically while also giving a very broad idea of the concept.Ideally something that takes around 30min to 1 hour for a beginner to go through.Ideally with lots of pictures rather than text.:boost_requested: :boost_ok:

Hi everyone 😘I'm Ariane, also known as NoxieI'm a Sysadmin in Switzerland. I love cooking, makeup and gals. I am transgender, lesbian and poly-amorous. I am very open about all that and really don't mind talking about it so don't hesitate to dm me.Also I am totally not the kind of gal who set up her own instance just to try the platform and have her own emojis :girl_giggling: :girl_giggling:

qoto dot org is at it again. A free speech instance emailing admins of instances who have them defederated spewing bs left and right trying to get unblocked. Some of their bs:instances can't forward content to domains blocked on the og instance (it's the default behaviour but it can totally be modified)"all opinions allowed", "so nazi opinions are allowed ?", "No", so what is it mate?!they federate with the worst from the fedi and turn it as "it allows LGBT people to monitor the hatred"they sell themselves as the largest federation :blob_disapproval: and do a 180 when questioned about itthey said they developed a "subscribe" feature (a follow without following from what I understand) in order to help monitor hatred. I can't see how it could be abused. Like at all... :blobcoffeeunamused2: Their whole spiel is "protecting LGBTQ people". If I wanted to monitor that shit I'd have a second account away from queer places and I would absolutely NOT federate with the latter to avoid cross contaminating timelines. What they say makes absolutely no sense to me.That's after a small exchange of emails with the admin (I was pretty much bored so I spent time gathering information and having a laughing facepalm)I'll let you be the judge. If you're an instance admin feel free to DM me.

Wokay so people who want privacy here is tonight's shitshow :blobcat_terrified:People from pretty bad instances were snapshotting my instance from archive.orgThey are a pita to deal with. but I found a solution I think...Their bots don't even put a proper useragent and OF COURSE they don't follow robots.txt (because they don't care about people's privacy and are a good bunch of assholes). So while they respond to my mail I've gathered all my sysadmin powers to still find a way to ban their crawlers. AND HERE IT IS!!Step 0 : When I say edit this file : DO A COPY FIRST, depending on your include rule in nginx, move the copy outside of /etc/nginx ! :ablobcatheart:Soooo first of :we need a local dns cache to prevent spamming and to make it quick so let's configure resolved (tutorial here) : https://geekflare.com/linux-server-local-dns-caching/Then we need to compile an nginx module because we need to do a reverse lookup on the clients IPs as, from my digging, all their crawlers do have PTR record ending by archive.org. SOooooo get that on your server : https://github.com/flant/nginx-http-rdnsand follow this answer : https://stackoverflow.com/a/59993747 to install it.NOW WE'RE TALKING 😈 :blob_cat_knife:At the top of your /etc/nginx/nginx.conf you need to enable the module you compiled. Add as the first line load_module modules/ngx_http_rdns_module.so;then at the top of your http block addresolver 127.0.0.53;rdns_deny (.*)archive\.org;That's your global setup for the whole of your nginx routing, you can move it to a server block if you prefer. Now go to your /etc/nginx/sites-available/glitch.nginx (or where ever you set your config for glitch/masto)We can't put our stuff in the server block sadly because of redirection loops that get fucked up :BlobhajSadReach: so we'll put a linerdns on;at the top of those location blocks/~ ^/(emoji|packs|system/accounts/avatars|system/media_attachments/files)/sw.js/api/v1/streamingwe can't put it in @proxy again, because of loops :blobcatpensive:Anyway now you can run nginx -t, check everything is fine and do systemctl restart nginx (I use systemd and I like it, you might have your opinion against it I do not care :blob_cat_giggle: )Now check on an app AND the web ui that everything is fine!now go test on archive.org that everything is blocked properly :blob_cat_mlem:If you have a way to make it better, or if you found out it doesn't work properly, feel free to comment, I wanna make it work as well as possiblebtw eventhough the module is not maintained anymore it will work on nginx 1.18.0I tested many different things, relied on old info from when archive.org still respected robots.txt and had a proper useragent etc. I'm working on it since 8pm (it's 3 now. . .) and I'm pretty angry I had to rely on a janky solution for something so basic as my own privacy. . .This post is formatted, if you don't see it thank Eugene for his visionary look upon UX :blob_nom_cookie: and come look at it from my instance.I am very salty but happy in the end. Thanks for reading :blob_cat: and have a lovely evening everyone :bear_hugs:Final note : if you see other archival services that have peculiar IP ranges or PTR records you can add multiple deny or rdns_deny lines and share them with me :ablobcatheart::boost_ok:
