Someone should make a mod for mastodon that applies "12 foot ladder" to all these paywalled articles automatically. Everybody here is linking places like WaPo which nobody can read

@cjd sure, but I want to read the thing. All the articles are just copies of eachother, this is why I don't care about some specific site's paywall. I violate this distaste myself by posting LATimes articles (which even fewer people subscribe to than wapo/nyt/etc). Still.

@cjd Also not really comfortable with content filtering beyond unfollowing or muting accounts. That discomfort is twitter's legacy, but I have tens of thousands of blocks over there as well...

@miah you can do partial text matches, so filtering the RT @pattern is viable I think.

@stux it would be cool if all the global news agencies got together and syndicated from a domain like this

Kind of concerned that we keep shortening SSL certificate lifetimes... we're going to end up in a situation where it's all automated, and nobody will be able to fix when an entire class of thing is bricked due to lack of secure connectivity...

@BrodieOnLinux I'm totally neutral ("don't care") on instance admins making moderation decisions with and for their users. I'm more concerned about such a large company jumping in, doing things at (possibly) such high volume that they flood out smaller servers again. Part of that is AP implementations working on software speed and efficiency, but some may also be handled by defederation

@adamshostack > When I was at Microsoft, some of my co-workers made a big deal of how they locked down their laptop, or bought a burner for Defcon. Me? I asked why our products weren’t safe enough to use in that environment, given that they’re certainly used in more dangerous places.Yeah, and that's the real takeaway. If you don't think your personal devices can handle that, it's an industry problem not a personal one
