@urusan I have a tin box painted with birds that I got from my father who got it AFAIK from his grandmother. I don't know how old it is exactly, but, well, my father was born around 1950. It sits on my dresser and I keep my batteries and battery chargers in it.One of the plastic boxes I collect dirty laundry in I got new as a kid to keep toys in, so I guess it's ~30 years old.

Given that there are people who watch playthroughs of games that are too difficult for them because they want to experience the story, I think your assumption is not universally true. Different people enjoy different styes of play, including "no challenge is a danger and I can progress without anxiety and frustration"
